They are playable as demos at the booth to the public. I believe Halo 4 is letting you play the first level at their booth. The studio has already said that the game is in the final stages of rendering and debugging. ACIII and Black Ops 2 are more than likely in similar levels of completion considering their release dates. Far cry 3 is probably ahead of them.

The games that showed mostly trailer footage arent done yet, Ill give you that. The last of us, Forza, Beyond and ZombiU are all obviously just trailers at this point.

I said "Most of the big names" are playable. Because they are.

MS was piss, no surprises.

EA was damage control and raping of already dead franchises and sports. TOR goes free to play, that delighted me. Also yay DLC premium BF3 glorious. How disgusting.

Ubisoft was probably the most awkward thing ever and there was no mister caffeine, the new AC looks like the same shit except snow, so innovative, fight like an American grr. Far Cry looks ehhhh. The new IP watch dogs or whatever looks sooort of interesting, the demo was really good up until it turned into ANOTHER third person cover based shooter. Also oh god Flo Rida at the start.

Sony's actual presentation was good in the sense that it wasn't cringe worthy garbage but the content was appalling. Ripping off nintendo, another gears of war, an interactive movie, books. And a new IP. It only does everything except prove itself worthy of its price tag.

Vita looks pretty much dead and they didn't even mention the Persona remake so it looks like Sony knows it is.

Nintendo starts in 15 minutes but I've lost all interest now. I'm sure they'll win but I don't like rehashes.

I was just surprised that he only liked Gears of Wars.

Anyway, I honestly hope all of these non-sequels do really well, because it may help get the point across that non-sequels DO do well to, and not just sequel after sequel.

The movie industry has already been pretty much ruined by sequel after sequel. I mean Happy Feet 2? Cars 2? New Madagascar movie? Another Ice Age? It's pathetic.

I'm definitely not entirely against sequels. Sometimes video games need a sequel to really get the game done properly. Like Infamous 2 is much better than Infamous 1. There's quite a few sequels to video games where the 2nd game is better than the first. In the movie industry? Usually the sequels start going down hill, and the 3rd one is the worst. Especially if they really, really don't need sequels. Call of Duty got pretty dull from it's mass of sequels.

The ones I were originally most excited for were Sim City 5 and FIFA 13, however I was absolutely blown away by Watch Dogs.

I was, in the end, disappointed with Sim City 5. As an avid player of SC4, it looked like EA and Maxis had decided to dumb down the newer edition to appeal to the wider audience. The graphics look cartoony, and the overall gameplay, to be frank, a bit shit.

Yay, FIFA 13! I love the FIFA franchise, and have been playing the games for about six years. I can't wait to buy it and get playing on it; the gameplay looks more interesting than in FIFA 12, and the new AI, game engines and all that will be interesting to test out too.

Watch Dogs was one that I happened to stumble across on YouTube when looking for highlights of yesterday's E3 coverage, and I found the gameplay trailer. It looked, in one word, amazing. Fluid graphics, excellent sound, an interesting new concept and the information and individuality concerning every NPC in the game made it feel completely revolutionary. I'll be asking for that game come Christmas time!

Overall, I'm excited about E3 and the new technological and gaming advances shining through, and I can't wait to go browse some more of today's content on YouTube!

To address the sequel problem, its because follow ups to big games are usually BIGGER games. They make the money for the studios. Halo 1 was good. Halo 2 was better. Modern Warfare was good, Modern Warfare 2 was fantastic. Gears 1 was good, gears 2 was better. The problem is when the franchises become too long for their own good. They just churn out games for the sake of doing it. The CoD effect. However there are exceptions when the game changes enough or develops a good enough story during the course of the game to stay good. Halo follows this quite well. The story keeps getting bigger and better, the gameplay is tweaked and different in every game. They are a series that can continue so long as they dont get stagnant.

That said, I want to talk about E3 press conferences.

Microsoft has it down. Present their blockbuster franchises(Halo 4 and Gears), then bring a feature online thats bigger and better than what anyone else is doing. Other groups have mobile to console integration, but Microsoft isnt making you buy anything new, just an app. Thats better than anything else being announced so far.

Sony went the other route. Theyve taken the most powerful console out there and made a bunch of kiddie gadgets for it. And announced a feature that another group already has, but they want you to pay $300 more for it. They underwhelmed me with their exclusive franchise. Their 1redeeming point was The last of Us. It saved their night from being a complete failure

Ubisoft was pretty good, even if they did go the creepy concert dancing route. I really wouldnt have started so weakly if I were them. Nobody wants to see Just Dance at E3, they just want to play it at home. But at least they showed us a lot of what we wanted to see and then finished strong with something we never expected but love even more.

EA was a disappointment. Sim City looks like another cartoon to me. And outside that, there was nothing I really cared about. Oh another Madden and Fifa, big whoop. Give me a good original game if you cant show me a good franchise.

Im currently watching Nintendo and think they are doing pretty good. They are using their games to describe the console. They started with a strong franchise(Pikmin), moved into hardware changes/improvements/announcements and they SPEAKA DE ENGWISH!

First, you need a writer or two. Then, you get some artists and a couple of programmers. Put them all in a big room (equipped with whiteboards, paper, computers and stationary) with lots of energy drinks and crisps, add a few million dollars, and come back in a year or so.

I don't mind cartoony graphics. Really, what's wrong with cartoony graphics? We're on the edge of the uncanny valley in video gaming. Besides that, they're still working on it.

I just hope that they make it as complex as it was with SC4. Which, they don't seem to make an effort on.

People making and buying that too. They're not mutually exclusive. Besides which, if people are buying sequels of sequels of sequels then obviously people enjoy "the same rehashed stuff", which is the point of entertainment media. Well, the point aside from making money for the producers of it.

Probably when those once-a-year-release franchises start getting stale and boring. Which, for CoD was around MW 1. honestly, the best CoD games were 1 and 2. Modern Warfare 1 was pretty good, World at War was mediocre at best - but at least it had zombies - everything after that was down hill. Blacks Ops was by far the worst CoD game to date and I haven't played MW2 for that reason. next time they have a free weekend on Steam I'll download it and see what I think but my hopes are not very high.

For games like Halo and Gears of War, I always sort of thought both of these games were rehashed garbage in their original titles, never mind in their subsequent sequels. I know they both have rabid fan bases though, so they must be doing something right that I just don't get/doesn't appeal to me.

I'm also scared to try Max Payne 3. I don't like the "look" of the direction they took and the storytelling doesn't seem to be there... But I haven't played yet, I might not even want to see what it's become, Max Payne 1 is one of my all time favorite games. I've played through the campaign at least 9-10 times.
