The gaydar is fictional.

I know that my more "fabulous" friends like to think of themselves as being able to spot a gay person without really knowing them but.... no. Sorry.

Besides, the number of gay people who have tried it on with me counts as proof that their gaydars are either faulty or nonexistant.

How does one define "gaydar"?

Are some people better than others at determining the sexual orientation of others? Yes, I would imagine so.

Can some people do it with a total stranger and near - 100% accuracy? I would very be surprised if this were true.

near 100% prolly not, but give me about 10 minutes of conversation time and i think 70% is possible. Sometimes you can tell by the way someone walks or just talks they are gay.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

Isn't stereotyping such a great and wonderful thing?

Indeed it does.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm having some friends over later, so I'm going to go to the store to stock up on watermelon and fried chicken.

Sterotyping or not, it is still factual, if I see a bar in the west village called "flaming saddles". I think its a fairly safe assumption it is a gay bar.

What does the name of a hypothetical bar have to do with profiling people based on stereotypes?

But it could also be a bar exclusively for fire-eaters and cowboys. I hear those are all the rage these days..

Eh, sometimes you can pick it out but it's not like I can point to any given fellow and say “yep, he likes dudes.”

if i see a person in that bar, i think its safe to think they are probably gay. ANd that makes me a bad person. :palm:

THat was not the point i was trying to make but in short
sterotyping works.

If i see a person on the colorado range, in blue jeans, boots and chaps, and a stentson i think i can assume he is some ranch hand.

If I is see a guy dressed as a fireman, standing next to a firehouse, i assume he is a fireman.

consequently if i talk to a guy in a black shirt, black vest, black jeans and chaps on christopher street i can safely say he is gay.

I dont see me saying gay people are bad, i am saying that based on certain visual and auditory cues, i can usually tell if a person is gay or not with more accuracy than simply flipping a coin, or using probabilty theory. That is the defininiton of "gaydar". Having lived in new york city, (including 5 years the west village), most of my life, i have Gaydar.
