How would the World react?
Obviously the world would unite to fight off the aliens, but how would they fight them off? What tactics would they use against an unknown enemy?
How would nations like Iran and Israel co-exist with each other to take out a common enemy?
Which country would make the most difference in military operations? Who would lead the coalition against the aliens?
How would the aliens attack? Would they have gunpower? What would they want from Earth?(Slavery, resources, etc.)
Would you join a resistance movement against the alien invaders?
How much of Earth would the aliens take over?

This is not what you THINK would happen, its kind of like a "create your own."
There are endless questions, but those are just a few.

In my opinion:
Reaction:
Declare international emergency. Mobilize troops and fight off the invaders as soon as possible. Rush civilians to safe areas.

Tactics:
Defend mostly. Find their weaknesses. Discover what they invaded Earth for. Launch counter-attacks when the time is right.

Enemies co-existing:
They would simply ignore each other.

Military:
I think China and the U.S/NATO would make the largest impact. China has swarms of troops and the U.S. and NATO have massive numbers in their combined armies. US or UN would probably lead the coalition.

Aliens Strategy:
Attack in massive numbers. Learn our weaknesses. Eliminate major cities. They would have guns, but guns that do not shoot bullets. Some sort of different material. They would want Earth's water and manpower.

Resistance:
It would be almost inevitable to join the fight against aliens.

Aliens would take most poor countries and parts of western countries.

Let your alien minds run wild..

I've written a story like this. Hopefully I can get it published.

Assuming they have the technology to get to our planet you could probably assume they have the technology needed to absolutely butt-fuck us.

Realistically, if they have the technology to get here, they have the technology to absolutely destroy us. Our best bet would probably be guerilla warfare tactics.

As for resources, I highly doubt they'd want our oil, and water and other minerals can be found several places in the galaxy.

What hasn't been found (by us at least) are complex protein chains, found in plants, animals and, most abundantly, us.

Those aliens wanna slather us in seven secret herbs and spices and eat us in a bucket.

Indeed. As big a fan as I am of human ingenuity and resolve it's no match for technological supremacy. Not unless our would-be conquerors are as incompetent as Hollywood portrays them.

Taking the Alien PoV for a moment... how to attack earth from a space-based position...

First order of business is NOT to enter the atmosphere but target and drop ALL of the junk that humans put into near orbit...
Second order of business would be to drop some local asteroids or debris from saturns rings onto any large complex of habitation

I would skip landing and attempt to tactically bombard any areas of the planet showing any large industries...

This would mean dropping asteroids across Russia, China the North America as well as significant island nations like Australia and Japan along with England and Greenland...

I would also deliberately drop an asteroid or two onto the arctic and antarctic regions...

If the native "intelligent" species (humans) is able to deal with becoming aquatic then they would be an easier target admittedly...

Once the primary landmasses are devastated and humanity is knocked back I would then start with a "second wave" of aerial flyovers at mach 4+ with specific "halo drop" runs against any and all submarine and carrier group placements...

if there is ANY mechanical or large concentrations then I would literally blitzkrieg the location.

there is plenty of material in orbit around saturn and parking a collection and forwarding station out there along with a primary fleet emplacement in near orbit around the planet and dropping a rain of local asteroid material through "railgun" emplacements along the external surfaces of my "fleet"...

Once the locals are down to "resistance" levels similar to WWII I would then pick a *single* landmass and eliminate all resistance in that area before spreading to another landmass...

Using any and all technical advancements I would actively support local "storm trooper" blitz assaults on forward positions with heavy artillery followed by troops.

if I can I would also drop a space craft down the Marianas trench and create a local base down there...

Any locations that are good for a space elevator would be useful to connect space and land forces with a secondary objective where any "space elevator" which is assaulted can be dropped.

I won't particularly care about the environment locally since I will have long-term survival as a goal and any material I can obtain off the local system "for free" such as water asteroids and such things would be perfectly useful for sitting out and waiting for radical environmental changes to assist the invasion in eradicating the majority leaving the few "strongest" groups to be useful as military target practice.

Primary Objective strategy would be to park several ships in orbit along with creating both an earth side AND dark side moon bases, as well as having ship patrols in mars and saturn orbits...

I can use my supply vessels for asteroid and saturn ring mining while dropping the extras into the gravity well as "ammunition".

I will not waste any supply of materials onboard and actively start setting up and using mirrors and lenses to use the light and energies from the most local star (the sun) and direct them to the local planetary surface...

Ants under a magnifying glass might be a useful concept... where the humans are the ants.

Why bother landing troops until the local "wild life" is regrowing from massive changes?

The entire point of the exercise would be long-term colonization where the planetary resources become my objective and also usable material in eliminating opposition.

If I need to change the planetary atmosphere to be supportive to my own biological (or mechanical) nature then I would have no qualms about an active planet-wide terraforming project

any terraforming would actively support my troops in the terraformed areas and those areas still deemed "wild" would need a total obliteration.

Treat my Alien ass as equivalent to a vengeful "god" where I am here to compost your dead ass into something I can then use and terraform your planet into my colony.

Why would they bother to invade us? With all the technology they have, they can just think up some sort of device or disease that can wipeout or cripple all human life and leave the planet unharmed for their terraforming plans.

And why would they need slaves when they (most likely) have the technology to breed and clone slaves?

civilization (or at least the civ we know) would quickly collapse even with the entire world fighting along side each other. if there would be any hope it would be guerrilla warfare by survivors.

Exactly... drop a Planet-Killer asteroid or two onto the Artic and Antarctic ice-shelves and let "nature" on-planet show its recycling of any large or technology based life...

I can sit quite happy in my spacecraft and simply clean up "near orbit" of the planet by dropping any junk back down.

Thats communications and assault where anything they(the planet natives) send up I(the alien forces) can send or shoot right back down the gravity well it comes from.

When you consider just how effective North Korean launch systems are, it strikes me as a better idea not to let them have them...

I can picture it now, hundreds of missiles rising up from Earth as one....when a handful of them start to sputter, than stall, then fall back to North Korea.

Humanity would unite... like it always does. There is greater danger to all sides (aliens), so they would put aside rivalries and unite to fight against common foe. Most likely: Nuke, More nuke, and even more nuke before figuring out their weakness and hopefully winning.

Head to the exact center of the nearest population hub, and wait for the inevitable asteroid strike.
