What? are you kidding me? killing a man in close range is pretty gruesome, and human life, even of a violent robber, is important; If I got a gun and he does something stupid after I warn him, I'll blow his knees off and tie him up for the cops, in every other scenario I'll probably try to beat him with a baseball club until he stops fighting.

The life of a person you knowingly violates the sanctity of your abode is NOT important. What is important is protecting the lives of your family. This is funny considering that you believe crippling a person to be an answer to your moral dilema.

I don't think I would be able to answer that until, God forbid, I found myself in such a situation. Is the intruder hostile? Does he pose a threat to me or others in the house. Would lethal force be absolutely necessary? I am a legal firearm owner, but would I ever want to use it against a human? I hope that's a quandary I never find myself in.

My own solution:

1) Shoot intruder in foot/hand.
2) Cut the Achilles tendons of said intruder with a knife.
3) Repeat with tendons of thumb and index finger, both hands.
4) Duct-tape intruder.
5) Call police.

It's a good thing you're a godlike marksman( ), because after torturing a person like that you're going to have some very angry cops all over your shit.

Better than blowing his knees off, methinks.

EDIT: Shoot intruder in arm/leg. I'd prefer a baseball bat to a gun, though, to be honest.

Blowing off his knees would be gruesome, possibly fatal, and bloody difficult to do. Not a good plan of action.

Difficult? how come? I have personally seen someone hit a knee from 70 meters with nothing but iron sights; yes, it was an m4a1 and not a handgun, but I should be able to hit someone from 3-6 meters without having much of a problem. It isn't fatal, either, it's just messy (and not even close to as much as shooting to kill is, which has the target bleed out from multiple wounds) and scary but pretty easy to deal with it until the ambulance get's there.

depends what state you're in. Where I live, someone got sued for greivous bodily harm because an intruder gouged something out on an unusually-positioned knife. In other places, it's hard to even take it to court. Not precisely the same circumstances, but look at Travon Martin.
