According to this, this has happened multiple times in that area...

Cops are blaming it on "Bad LSD" which causes the subject to feel like they is literally "melting in their clothes".
Reports of attacks are coming in from Brisbane, or Melbourne, one of the two.
Evidently, I can't find any record of planes coming to or fro Florida, so this may be coincidental.
I'm staying the hell away from any major urban centers tomorrow, and I'll keep an eye on all news sources.

The Zombie Survival Guide is complete crap.

A shotgun is one of the best weapons against a zombie, especially at close range. In fact, you shouldn't be killing a zombie unless it is within shotgun range of you as you would be wasting ammunition. Any gun will make noise, and the lighter guns that silencing is actually going to do much on have a chance of not even penetrating the skull, especially with the reduced power that a silencer imparts. A 9mm bullet, while it would do a lot of damage, can actually bounce off the skull at the right angle, especially with reduced velocity from a silencer/muzzle flash hider. My step uncle actually shot a raccoon in the skull with a .22 pistol and the bullet didn't penetrate the skull. A shotgun however has either a slug or pellets usually, and more pellets with more force behind them(the powder in a shell will propel all of the pellets at approximately equal velocities) means more things with higher force in them. It makes a higher chance of a penetration. A solid slug will almost always penetrate and destroy a skull. Assuming you hit, and solid slugs are FAIRLY accurate. A pump-action shotgun would be extremely useful because it is very easy to carry around and to use, as well as being easy to control the recoil on comparatively. A double-barreled shotgun, even sawn off, would be a waste however. The amount of time you'd spend reloading would make you an easy target.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that shotguns are not bad weapons, and that the Zombie Survival Guide is full of complete shit out of nowhere.

Personally, me, I'd go to my school. Why? While the food is bad, there is multiple months worth of food there and multiple places to raid nearby. Also, the metalshop. We have a GREAT metalshop/woodshop with tons of supplies and really good tools. You could make that room into a fortress. That and there is a second floor type thing in one part of that room which is only accessible by ladder and the ladder has a steel cover that has no purchase on it that requires a key to unlock. You could stockpile food up there and just drop 1-5 pound balls of iron or brass or steel or anything really. Or even blocks of wood. You could make weapons very easily, and by hand too. Take a round bar of tool steel, use the abrasive cutoff saw or one of the bandsaws, cut to a reasonable length, heat in forge, hammer end to point, weapon. That and there's a lot of ball-peen hammers and sledges...

You will want a shotgun for a variety of uses, and as a backup weapon, but it shouldn't be your main weapon.

And even if it is there is still time your not really cramming at the 11th hour at this point, maybe a day before the test but that still gives you a shot. People don't normally scratch or tear their own skin off but people on PCP have been known to do so.
