The story of Stuff debate

Postby Surote » Fri Sep 25, 2009 5:04 pm

Story of stuff

This has lies but it also has some truth we need to change our system so it's better for the enviroment.

Story of Stuff, The Critique Part 2 of 4

Story of Stuff, The Critique Part 1 of 4

Story of Stuff, The Critique Part 3 of 4

Story of Stuff, The Critique Part 4 of 4

This country has become comsumer country and that's not bad but we need to make our comsumer more green.
The media tells us that we suck cause our stuff is not up to date it's wrong and that's why we need to teach our kids media literacy.

So your turn to sound off is our system okay as it is or do we need to fix it.

In case you couldn't tell, I have a very dim view of most of the modern green movement. Focuses too much on fear-mongering and anti-modernism.

Ha so unintelligible I forgot to read

Modernism does not necessarily equal environmentalism.

Wrong. Apparently, you don't know much about anti-modernism. Going green is not inherently modern. Depending on which way you go, it can be very ANTI-modern. The status quo is modern, on the other hand.

Afraid not. Green technology is FAR more expensive than the technology we are currently using. Therefore, Green technology is for the rich. :meh:

And if more "succesful [sic] and efficient" technology were harmful to the environment? What then?

Ninety percent of what we buy usually doesn't last until the end of the month, said they. Well, I don't know about you, but about ninety percent of what I buy is foodstuff, so you can just shove your hippy-theory.

If that were to help it just means it needs some more upgrades and reviews to help the efficiency

No, refining existing technology until it is feasible is the better way to go. Until then, yeah, let's keep with what we have now.

And Green Technology isn't technology that 'helps raise our fuel efficiency'.

No. It really isn't. Unless you have a link that proves that Solar/Wind/Tidal/Hydro power can completely replace Fossil Fuels, with the world exactly as it is at the moment, without incredible jumps in production cost, without significant jumps in technology, and without reducing current electricity usage.

I want a reliable source, mind you.
