Firstly, shouldn't the state be above such petty things as a desire for revenge? Shouldn't it try to rehabilitate murderers into valuable members of society? Secondly, isn't it hypocritical to condemn murder and then commit it on a murderer?(In the case of a rapist, I think it's even worse, as it's disproportionate). You didn't actually mention deterrents, but there's lots of evidence that it doesn't act effectively as a deterrent.

The reason we have the death penalty is cause the avg. person is less willing to play with their own life than with others. Meaning no one in their right mind would commit murder and you can't rehabilitate those that do not want or can not be rehabilitated.

Well, I dont support the Death Penalty, personally...But, being that in this scenario it is the law, It would seem to me that his request is circumventing the law and ought to be denied, imo anyway...

I've always been opposed to it. The person may always be found innocent at a later time, in which case, it would be impossible to undo the damage. I believe forced labour provides a very good alternative, and is also more useful for the community. I understand your position, but I believe once a law is instituted, no personal emotions should be allowed to interfere with its enforcement.

Admittedly, the DNA test is quite reliable, but it is also possible to plant false DNA evidence to fool an incompetent investigator. Also, influential people may rig the reports, regardless of the reliability of a DNA fingerprinting method itself...

Absolutely not. Executions brings the families of the victim more closure. Our last and Final Statement.
