A boy of nine playing soldiers with a Polish pal was branded racist by teachers, his mum claimed yesterday.
Steven C. made a gun shape with his fingers, pointed at his friend and said: "We've got to shoot the German army."
His teacher sent him to the deputy head and he was forced to apologise in front of his class, said his mother Jane H.
She added: "The deputy head shouted at Steven and said, 'That's racism' - which is ridiculous because he has a Polish aunt and they were on our side during the War.
"Steven didn't single out the Polish boy, who is a good friend. He just happened to be who he was playing with.
"I think the school has been very heavy-handed."
Jane, who lives with Steven's father Darren C., 39, and sister Amy, 18, added: "I am angry.
"Steven has been upset by it because he does not know why he has been told off. He came home after being told off and said, 'Mum, what's racism?'"
But Viv Perri, headteacher at Purford Green Primary School, in Harlow, Essex, insisted: "When a pupil uses inappropriate language or terms that could be offensive, we have a responsibility to explain to them why their behaviour is wrong.
"At no point was he accused of being racist."

What's not in the story is that the school said that the racist label will be in his school records for ever.
I think this again the political correctness police at work. When I was a kid, we played soldiers as well and I'm pretty sure we said similar stuff. None of us became racists later.
I feel it's not only wrong of the school, but also the media is playing a role:
Is it adding value to the story that the name of the boy is in full print? For heaven sake, they even added his picture to the story.
This is creating a scar on the little one his soul for the rest of his life.
