Are mods corrupt/biased?

Postby Ultor Corporation » Wed May 09, 2012 11:29 pm

*Note to Moderators* I consulted the rules and did not find anything against criticizing moderation decisions or discussing former NS members. If this post violates rules I respectfully request an explanation of what I did wrong.

I have recently started to believe that the mods are acting in a corrupt or biased manner. The job of the mods is to fairly enforce the rules and while they do enforce the rules they act in a biased manner that is confusing and unfair to the players.

The mods seem to abuse their power to punish nations they dislike for whatever reason by issuing overly harsh punishments while turning a blind eye to other offenses. Mods and admins should respect the community and its members as it is us who make the site what it is.

This is evident in the banning of 1000 Cats. He should not have had his nation deleted for what he said; at most it should have had a warning. That was clearly a case of him being deleted because he wasn’t liked by the mod team, even though he is a popular member of the forums. In fact he was made DOS not for his repeating his original offence but for speaking out against the mods decision. 1000 Cats at the very least should not have been made DOS as he did not commit any “similar offences” to what his nation was deleted for on his new account. This is yet another example of moderator bias against a member.

He is not the only one though. I have heard of other members that suffered unfair treatment and overly-harsh sentences even though I am too new to have known them personally.

So what do you think NSG? Are the mods justified in their decisions or am I right about any of this? I would also like to hear the moderators opinion on this issue as well.

You're late to the "revolution", friend.

They're human beings and volunteers, so they are as susceptible to any foible that any other person doing a job they're not being paid for are, but it's not some corrupt cabal.

That "revolution" was just some joke thing. This is meant to be serious and I'm not calling for any sort of revolt of protest. It's just a discussion.

Didn't we have this exact same thread days before we even had the "revolution" thread already?

Can we have another revolution just to be safe?

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

I believe 1000 Cats was banned for repeating the same thing despite being told not to, he thinks otherwise. The original nation was lost due to his own foolishness, although given that he had been getting away with it for a number of months bad luck may be appropriate.

As to the mods, if they aren't banning you, they're okay. Unless your a certain poster who will not be listed in which case they're always bad.

He was DOS'ed for disregarding an Administrator's instructions, repeatedly.

That's pretty much the end of it.

There might be something in that but given Cats was deleted three-ish days ago I think not.

Most people who end up DoS do so because they get carried away. FST is the classic example.

In order for the mods to be corrupt, they'd have to be able to, you know, get something for the work they do.

I asked for 1000 Cats to be deleted, so you should be complaining about corrupt admins, not mods. The mods just did what I requested. Anyway, the relevant thread is here.
