Why did you choose your political beliefs?

Postby Anthoraubia » Wed May 09, 2012 8:29 pm

The titles asks the main question. My beliefs are a mixture of right wing and left wing beliefs. I wouldn't be a conservative because I think they are just a bunch of old fashioned bigots. At the same times I wouldn't be a liberal because I think their ideals just simply won't work if applied in the real world.

I'm a pinko.

I turned commie learning about my family history & in turn much more about native american history. I think the rich are basically soulless. With that being said, I do have pride in my people, some i'm not a perfect Marxist. I do look up to Eugene Debs. I just think we should strive for a classless society.

I'm me.

Mostly conservative, somewhat libertarian.

Though I suspect using the term bigot in the Op means you don't really want to know why.

Well ultimately it came down to a mix of appreciation of corporatist values as a system of representation (not the economic system), libertarianism and meritocracy and the acknowledgment that man is a social being. Ultimately I found kindred thought in syndicalist and mutualist thought.

What lead me to those values was however a very strange process. For much of my life, my values went from what would be considered a strange mix of libertarianism with mosleyite fascism (yet still resenting nationalism) to college where I would develop Ancap trends, and eventually a long road of various round europe activities and sites which would inspire me to read Marxist and other left wing materials (clique I know XD) the rest is history.

Contrary to the propaganda, we live in probably the least materialistic culture in history. If we cared about the things of the world, we would treat them quite differently. We would be concerned with their materiality. We would be interested in their beginnings and their ends, before and after they left our grasp.

That depends on whose politics you're talking about my own, or the character I play on NSG?

I like the liberal ideals but I'm conservative at heart.
it is my firm belief that I should never have to justify my beliefs.

Well, my mother and father are both liberals, and so is most of my family. Also, I live in Northern California, right near San Francisco, so..

But I don't think I could be conservative even if I tried. It seems ridiculous.

I've always been distrustful of authority for personal reasons but saw anarchism as unrealistic. As I learned more about it, I found out it was more developed and realistic than I thought.

my considered moral intuitions seem to require libertarian socialism. my policy ideas and tactics flow from the desire to bring about as much good as possible given the existence of material and social conditions that stand in the way, combined with the best data we can get on how to do that. this leads me to take some very heterodox stances compared to the stereotype of people with my politics.

I was a Moderate Socialist (most of my friends are) until I became interested in Anarchist Philosophy. I consider myself a Democratic Anarcho-Capitalist. I see an Anarcho-Capitalist society as the ideal, which I hope that humanity can achieve somday through gradual democratic reform and political debate.

No choice for the libertarians, I see. I guess I'm just a mushy "moderate" then: socially liberal, economically conservative.

I'm a Third-Way Progressive (or Radical Centrist, if you prefer).

On social issues, particularly crime and immigration I am quite conservative, and for years I was a socialist until I discovered logic and reason and subsequently realised that social capitalism is much preferable to socialism.

To make a long story short, I'm in the middle.
