Sin City the movie was decent, but Robert Rodriguez was holding his hand the entire time. You wanna see what it looks like when Frank Miller tries to direct a movie on his own, watch The Spirit.

The movie was alright, but I genuinely enjoy the novels.

As for his body of work in comic books, I just don't think there's anything of value. Dark Knight Returns was a total destruction of the character of Batman and its sequel was immeasurably worse, 300 was nothing but macho fascist posturing with giggle-worth homoerotic undertones,

Agreed. But then again, I don't really like Batman that much.

Sin City was genetic noir pulp devoid of any artistry. It doesn't help that the artists he works with are universally terrible and that he's utterly incapable of creatign a female character who isn't a prostitute.

Sin City was amazing, and was (somewhat humourously), the reason I even found NS. As it turns out, certian sites I visit to read Sin City have links that lead me here.

Besides, it isn't meant to be taken completely seriously. It is as much a farce as it is graphic. Miller manages to subtlely satirize the noir genre whilst at the same time making you question is motives. It's a damn fine read, but I suppose we all have different tastes.

He still held a shred of the original Batman at first, he spared Joker after all. In the end though, it was really what Batman would become after years of mourning.

A bit too Silent Hill. I prefer what Vlad suggested earlier: a melding of realities as the characters' graps on reality becomes more unstable. A simple switching back-and-forth would enforce an order on the universe. This is about the breakdown of order.

Ah, but the events in the dream reality influences her actions in the main reality. And we can make it less obvious that we've switched realities (at least at first). Make the dream reality seem like the main reality. We just won't show her waking up after something happens (like a main character's death), and cut to the next scene with that character interacting with her.

As a person who has written stories before, nothing unsettles the reader more than good, old fashioned mindfuck. And a graphic novel is the perfect place to sodomize one's brain.

I've been told similar things before, but I just can't see any of it in the novels themselves. I've read them several times at the behest of friends and it always seems to be taking itself completely seriously. Maybe the self-parody just goes over my head. I've ben assured it's there, so I guess i'll just have to take your word for it.
