I could say I don't believe in gravity, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Just saying, a dimension is merely a different way of moving.
Say there's a 2D (it is assumed that time is a constant, regardless of spatial dimensions) creature, living in a 2D society. He knows nothing of anything he can't see in the 2 dimensions of space that he can experience. His society also has the concept that time is a dimension as well.
He begins to wonder, what if there's more dimensions that he can't see, not only of time, but of space as well? He can't picture what a 3D object would look like in 3D space, because he has never experienced 3D space, although he can picture what it might look like in 2D space.
