The Democratic Party is Racist

Postby Gallogach » Wed May 09, 2012 5:20 pm

http://realdemocrathistory.wordpress.com/category/kkk/

Please read this and let me know what you all think. I know that this is no official source for statistics and data, but I am sure that historical research will yield similar findings. For those of you who say that the democrats are no longer racist, you can look up the history of the following democrats:

Robert Byrd was apart of the KKK
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Democrat icon and orchestrator of Japanese Internment
Ex-House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, former affiliate of a St. Louis area racist group
Ex-Senate President Pro Tempore Robert Byrd, former Ku Klux Klansman known for making bigoted slurs on national television
Rev. Jesse Jackson, Democrat keynote speaker and race hustler known for making anti-Semitic slurs
Rev. Al Sharpten, Democrat activist and perennial candidate and race hustler known inciting anti-Semitic violence in New York City
Sen. Ernest Hollings, leading Democrat Senator known for use of racial slurs against several minority groups
Lee P. Brown, former Clinton cabinet official and Democrat mayor of Houston who won reelection using racial intimidation against Hispanic voters
Andrew Cuomo, former Clinton cabinet official and Democrat candidate for NY Governor who made racist statements about a black opponent.
Dan Rather, Democrat CBS news anchor and editorialist known for using anti-black racial epithets on a national radio broadcast
Donna Brazile, former Gore campaign manager known for making anti-white racial attacks. Brazile has also worked for Jackson, Gephardt, and Michael Dukakis

Anecdotal cases do not make the entire Democratic Party racist.

I could easily draw up a similar list of Republicans.

The only difference is that the GOP list would include much more recent offenses.

In determining whether a party is racist, look at the policies they endorse.
"These states are just saying 'Yes, I used to beat my girlfriend, but I haven't since the restraining order, so we don't need it anymore.'" — Stephen Colbert, Comedian, on Shelby County v. Holder

Very compelling argument, however you have made the assumption that I am a member of the Republican party. I am in fact an independent.

You could use similar logic to say that the Republican Party is gay. (Not that here's anything wrong with that.)

"Hope is for sissies." - House

"We're not ordinary people - we're morons!" - Jerome Horwitz

Remember, the Democratic party up until the early 70's still had dixie democrats, and harsh conservatives who never switched to the Republican side. And no party is racist, Just some of the people in it.

You cannot base an argument on a series of rare cases.

If you look at the article, it lists numerous civil rights policies they opposed and cites how they committed such atrocities as the "Japanese internment camps" during WWII.

I ask that everyone actually read the article in entirety before trying to insult me and claim I am wrong.

My immediate reaction:

Anyways, yeah.... most of the stuff you cite is really really old, or misinterpreted, or fantisized. And, to boot:

I could find lots of examples of racist statements and actions among prominent independents, too.

And the GOP is not? Regardless, most of the members you mentioned are lunatics who still believe that segregation and racism is an important national issue and don't reflect mainstream Democrats.

How old are most of the people on this list? Because, if you knew the actual history of our parties, the Democrats were split into two groups: Northern and Southern Democrats. The Southern Democrats split off and eventually integrated into the much more similar (ideologically wise) Republican Party during the 60s and 70s. The Northern Democrats became the Democratic Party you see today.

No, I don't think that constitutes as racism. FDR did a really #%!@ed up thing and the things the other ten people did are distasteful, but does that mean the entire Democratic Party is racist?

Please refrain from such extreme and broad stereotypes in the future. (All racists use stereotypes, don't 'cha know?)

Not if the party itself supports racist ideas and have acted on these ideas in the past.

As of 2004, the Democrat Party (the oldest political party in America) has never elected a black man to the United States Senate, the Republicans have elected three.

Your source is a tad dated.

Wordpress is a horrible source.

I think you're also failing to learn your history. The Democratic Party during the days of slavery and the Missouri Compromise was essentially the Republican Party of today. They were the ones who preached about states' rights and an overbearing federal government.
