but the state does recognize the marriage. in New York. the whole point is that they cannot get gay married on THEIR (north carolina) turf. from my understanding, they receive all the federal marriage benefits, and thus there is no crime other than them having to go to new york to get married and having to deal with the TSA nazis

I don't know maybe they're rude obtuse people who didn't recognize a state ban on gay marriage was their way of saying "fags go home?" Maybe they chose where they wanted to live and refused to be pushed out. Maybe instead of drawing conclusions you could look up North Carolina state law that says "marriages, whether created by common law, contracted, or performed outside of North Carolina, between individuals of the same gender are not valid in North Carolina."

And if Indiana passed a law saying, "Driver's licenses from other states are valid in Indiana, except for ones issued in Illinois and driving with an Illinois license may subject the driver to a fine of up to $500 and/or 30 days imprisonment," that would be fine? As far as I know, same-sex marriage is the only subject on which states have passed legislation specifically targeting certain public acts from other states. But then again, what do I know?

No, not all the time. But then again, I'm against any form of organized religion, it detracts from an individual's ability to discover God on their own. That's what I did. Then I watched a special on the Discovery Channel, and became Atheist. Pro-lifing is just an excuse for people to try to clear their conscience. It is murder, I agree, but it's good murder.

All that aside (Don't want to become a thread-jacker now, do I?), I stick with my earlier statement: I love the south. Friendly people, beautiful landscape, and (Minus the whole slavery part) A great history.

Indeed, and I suppose it's possible your example regarding drivers' licenses might have Constitutional problems from other angles--I don't know and it's not an urgent enough matter for me to be particularly inclined to spend time finding out--but FF&C isn't one of them.
