Poisoning the well. Congratulations you've commited a fallacy.

In any case. In the scientific definition, yes. Merely because that's how they define things.

In a real sense? No. Not at all.

Genetically and in some of our actions toward everything (we're just trying to survive, or think we are), yes.
The United Colonies of Earth exists:
to encourage settlement of all habitable worlds in the Galaxy and perhaps the Universe by the human race;
to ensure that human rights are respected, with force if necessary, and that all nations recognize the inevitable and unalienable rights of all human beings regardless of their individual and harmless differences, or Idiosyncrasies;
to represent the interests of all humankind to other sapient species;
to protect all humanity and its’ colonies from unneeded violence or danger;
to promote technological advancement and scientific achievement for the happiness, knowledge and welfare of all humans;
and to facilitate cooperation in the spheres of law, transportation, communication, and measurement between nation-states.

Technically speaking, yeah, we are. But I'd also venture that we're the BEST animals, chiefly because of gunpowder and steel.

Yes, I do. I understand there's a great deal of arrogance and conceit that goes into pressing the notion we're above the beasts of the earth.

Not that I agree on the original statement, but in every measurement humans outstrip every living thing on this planet.

Not if you're measuring, say, ability to obtain oxygen from water, or ability to withstand radiation.

Depends upon the context, really.

But in general - no, definitely not.

Humans obviously are a substantial new stage of life, compared to all other species on the planet.

- Humans have a direct connection between the brain and the hands, and between the brain and the speech apparatus, allowing them to use complex language and allowing them to perform complicated fine work like, for example, playing a piano, a feat unarchievable by any animal.

- Humans, thanks to the useage of language, have developed science and many comforts. We live in artificial houses, wear artificial clothing, use mechanical and electronic machines, study the world in all its aspects, and have religion, etc.

One can still say we resemble animals in many things, but obviously we are a substantial step forward and even the most advanced animals, such as dolphins, elephans, sperm whales, octopus etc, only come close but dont reach out level of abstraction and self awareness.
Be fruitful and multiply.

And there's the old caveat. "Without technological aid." Very well, I'd say we echolocate much better than bats, without the aid of their ears.

Without technological aid is ridiculous. It is our technology that makes us human. To say "without it" You are comparing monkeys to the animal world. Not people.

Yep. :P That's what makes humans so great. We ignore your silly animal rules. We can't fly because we weren't born with wings you say mr tiger? Well to hell with that. We'll make wings. And then we'll make combustible lemons and burn your tree down!

I accept that we are animals but I really hate it. We are really far too advanced to be considered animals but if the experts say so, oh well.

No other animal comes even close to the way humans behave? How about that. There are a million and one different types of everything, and yet humans are unique.
