Maybe we can make guns coin-operated and hire meter-maids to go around and collect the money. Not only would we provide a new source of income, but a new source of employment. :)

You know, this would only prove the "gun nuts" right on their assertions.

Also, I dislike so called "sin taxes" by their very nature - an extra tax on alcohol, tobacco, soda, bullets... whatever. I find that distasteful in nature because it seems discriminatory.

Don't gasoline taxes go towards funding government transportation projects? Why would an ammo tax go to health care?

I think an ammo tax should be used to provide weapons for everyone. Just like how a gasoline tax supports our ability to use gasoline, ammo taxes should be used to support our ability to use bullets! Since our Bill of Rights specifies that we've a right to bear armaments, it should be the government's responsibility to ensure that we have armaments to bear!

Obviously a bullet tax should go to paying for more intelligent firearm regulation. Genius, I'm glad you thought of it.

Yes, let's go ahead and pretend that that's your reasoning.

Let's put an extra tax on water then. That shit is fucking popular.

That could work, too. Makes more sense than making it go to health care in any case ;)

Why? Tap water is quite popular too. I use it all the time, and a lot of people do - for drinking, washing clothes, bathing, watering the lawn, washing the car, so on and so forth.

In fact, I'd say that every person uses up our water every day! I say we need to tax that shit.

Water is not a product. Also, your being a dick. Perhaps you are angry because the store ran out of all the ammo you wanted to buy?

Because we don't agree with that sense of logic. Banning guns simply means that the criminals, who usually procure the firearms by illegal means anyways, will be the only civilians armed.

Ad hominem. Besides that, nope - I have all the ammo I need, thank you. You do know that gunpowder does degrade over time, and that if you get too much ammunition it will start to go bad on you, right?

I'm just showing the inherent fallacy in "it's popular, so let's tax it" idea. You obviously don't espouse it, or you would be for taxing water, soda, sunglasses, computers, and any number of other things. You focused on bullets because you don't like guns (and the bullets they shoot) and want a lesser-armed populace, in any way possible. That's why you've focused on bullets this time around.

I have a modest proposal: We should have a special tax on everybody who wants universal health-care coverage. It's called the "you want it, you pay for it" tax. I figure that one way or another, this will cause the number of people wanting universal coverage to match those willing to pay for it. I profess, in the sincerity of my heart, that I have not the least personal interest in endeavoring to promote this policy, as I already have health insurance. ;)

There you go. Gun nuts will be powering the economy one delusion fueled purchase at a time.

"Delusion fueled purchase?"

I like to target shoot every once in a while, how exactly is that "delusional?" Sounds like someone needs to tone down the polemic just a tad.
