Are you saying the U.S. wasn't in debt before Bush?

I remember looking at the stats as a kid, by the end of clinton I remember breaking even in the 90's thanks to some reforms by the treasury department.

that just seemed to evaporate when the war on terror started and he gave everyone with the highest income a 15% tax cut to stimunate growth (it did... their investments in china grew greatly)

The reason that Carters GDP growth was higher was because of one year which was a fluke. Under Reagan we had steady growth.

Wow, ad hominem much? And I've actually looked at the numbers, the GDP growth by year was all over the place, Reagan, and yes, even Clinton, had steady predictable growth (after the recessions ended) throughout each one's presidency. You can't just lump all the years for each presidency and say once was better than the other, you have to break it down.

About the dept, you're right. The dept went up under Reagan and both Bushes because they cut taxes but didn't cut spending. It went down under Clinton because we had a bipartisan Congress and Presidency with balls. Man, I miss the 90s.

Ok, the GDP went up under Reagan (and probably most other presidents). He is now the greatest ever. Never mind the treason and all that.

When did I say he was the greatest President ever? It was never proven he was involved in Iran-Contra (although, will admit it is likely), and he escalated the drug war, which I strongly oppose. But that doesn't denigrate the good things he did, helping to end the Cold War, and giving restitution to the survivors of Japanese internment, under FDR.

He didn't help end the Cold War, in fact he increased tensions between the US and the USSR, like, y'know, "Evil Empire"? The Soviet Union was already collapsing. And what's this about aid to Japanese? I've never heard of that.

You're going to have to be more specific then that.

There has been a serious fall in patents, an increasing proportion of which are not supposed to be patentable, and I have yet to see a breakthrough in anything since the Atomic Age. Also, my jetpack.

There are jetpacks, not enough people want to buy them. I'd consider the Kindle/eBook to big, we don't have to cut down as many trees. And technically the Atomic Age is still ongoing.

Though we could be doing a lot better.

1. Institute a Flat tax system.
2. Apply tariffs on foreign goods and use those to pay off debt
3. Pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq because at this point we have been there too long to really go back and do it right and out right oppress the nation.
4. Make it a national mission like the "put a man on the moon" mission JFK had to develop a economic synthetic oil alternative to power our nation in 10 years (15 max).
5. Severely cut back on the EPA and its unending list of regulations.
6. Take military forces and stick them on the borders
7. Overall Immigration system and make so if you are already in the nation with no criminal background you can be made a citizen
8. Enforce current Immigration laws.
9. Make English the official language of government, trade, law, and education in the US
10. Privatize the TSA
11. Lift bans on automatic firearms and imported weapons
12. Focus on eliminating useless sub departments in the government
13. Uncensor the internet via law.
14. In the UN the US must start to act like a superpower and throw its weight around in it own favor and not so much for "the good of other nations"
15. Overhaul Social Security and streamline it

Overall I think its a good list that has a snowballs chance in hell of even partially coming to pass.
