1. Take an axe to the US' military budget
It's somewhere in the region of WAY TOO FUCKING LARGE. Pull it back, significantly. Ideally I'd want to see it cut as much as 50%, but I'll settle for a much more modest 25% reduction. The US doesn't need a military larger than the rest of the world's combined.
2. Cut corporate welfare, as it is.
Instead, put money into the corporation by scooping up stocks. Allow them to be sold back, at the cost originally purchased. This would help "save" companies that are "too bit to fail", but without it being a shaky "loan" that will likely never be repaid.
3. Decriminalize, regulate and tax all recreational drugs.
It would likely serve to reduce crime motivated by needing money for their drugs. It would also cut money from organized crime and make drug use/purchasing overall safer.
4. Decriminalize & regulate prostitution.
It's safer, healthier and less exploitative this way for the workers. It helps cut out flat out abusive parasitic elements of the *cough* "profession" and makes things overall safer.
5. Remove the tax exempt status of certain religious groups
In particular the ones that are overtly corporate in nature, or overtly hate groups. The Westboro Baptist Church springs violently to mind for the second group. They can say what they'd like, but they shouldn't effectively be compensated by the government for hate speech.
4. Pump money into infrastructure.
The first two steps would result in a fair bit of cash flow for other things. Things that actually help people. Education, for example, as well as public health care could use some loving. Maybe remove the rather terrible toll roads from use.
5. Higher standards for teachers. Pay them higher wages.
I think this one almost goes without saying. Teachers in the US are paid shockingly little for the work they do, and the standards for them is likewise low.
6. Legalize same-sex marriage federally.
Marriage equality, fuck yeah. There's literally no valid reason this isn't happening.
7. Open talks about the extent of the second amendment.
This really needs to be done: Honest discussion about how far the second amendment's supposed to reach and action on it. That way there could be a LITTLE less argument on the topic.
8. Reopen the constitution for updating in general.
The constitution, although an interesting document, is growing steadily out of date, irrelevant. Many important rights, such as the right of bodily autonomy and the right to privacy aren't guaranteed anywhere in US law. Rectify this.
9. Work against municipal smoking bans
The only place "government" has any real room to ban smoking in would be government owned buildings. Banning smoking in someone's bar they own, you may as well ban smoking in their home.
10. Ban genital mutilation on small children
Regardless of sex. Boys and girls both deserve equal protection under the law.
11. Actively work against creationism in schools
I forgot that this was actually an issue in the US. Added it.
That's everything.
This plan. I like it.
