It's really sad that it ends up like this.

This is Shellby. I had to get a new account again because it's been so long that my nation deleted itself and I couldn't remember the password. This may be grave digging and please excuse me if that is the case, mods. I hope everyone is doing well here, and is healing well.
As most of you know, in January of this year, the District Attorney decided not to arrest and prosecute my rapist based on the reasoning of "too much reasonable doubt".
In July, I went and took a polygraph test: click here.
This proves that what happened in April of last year, regardless of anything, DID happen.
In September (this month),a letter was written to the US Attorney General, and the CA Attorney General: click here
We asked them to please review the decision that the DA made, based on reasons that are included in the letter.
Another petition has been made: click here
This one urges the Attorney Generals to review the District Attorney's decision and makes it known to them that with what happened, with the polygraph, and with support from many people, they cannot just ignore the fact that there is a rapist on the streets.
Signed it. Would you be okay with me putting the link in my sig to see if it could get more signatures or...?

Another update for you guys is that I have been an ICV at UCSD for the past year. During the past two quarters (winter and spring), I regressed into depression and did not do well in school. Because of these reasons, UCSD has decided not to accept my transfer to their school. They have given me the option of going back to UC Davis, the school where I was assaulted, or quit college altogether.
Thank you guys so much for all the support you have given me so far, and I hope that I can borrow your support again for just a little while longer. I am not going to be in Nationstates a lot, but I will come in every now and again and check in on this thread and also check my telegrams, if you would like to speak to me.
Thanks so much again, you guys. xoxo

Shel, I got the email that was sent out to all the signatories of the original. I signed the new petition. I still can't believe that the DA would be so bold as to say, and I paraphrase, "We aren't going to pursue this. Decision final. Enjoy your life."
But what I took special notice of was the letter that was sent. I read through all twenty pages (or was it just twelve?), and was pretty sickened by what I read. It actually makes this even less believable. I actually can't describe in any way my reaction to such atrocious actions undertaken at all levels of the justice system. What I had read would, and should, result in a major misconduct investigation.
At the moment, in Australia, this is a pretty big child sex abuse commission being undertaken here. Its main focus is on the lack of reporting by community groups of instances of child sexual abuse. And while I know you aren't, by legal definitions, a child, to hear of an instance where sexual abuse in general has been allowed to be ignored/covered up/forgotten/whichever other term you wish to use, it makes me wonder about the state of law and order in modern times, and whether the current perception of law and order is symptomatic of the state of same.

Regardless of whether or not the letter made the situation "less believable" or not, these are the truths behind the justice system. I mean, down to the fact that in Pennsylvania, the sexual assault unit was jokingly called the "Lying Bitches Unit" ("One former detective from the 90s became notorious for nicknaming the Philadelphia sex crimes unit "the lying bitches unit" and publicly opining that women lie about rape "about half the time". http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/j ... sis-crimes). The police do not always take sexual assault seriously, and the District Attorneys almost never take it seriously.
Law and order (in my humble, angry opinion) is a bunch of laws put up in frames on a wall that no one actually does anything about. Police and government officials can say that they think rape is disgusting and a stop needs to be put to it, etc. but are not willing to change anything about it.

Got approached by a man yesterday, in the school parking lot while I was waiting for my boyfriend. It was right after school, but the parking lot was empty for the moment. He walked up to his car, which was behind my boyfriend's car that I was sitting on. He opened his car doors, started the engine and then stood and looked around for awhile. He then stared at me, and then continued looking around, before staring at me again. He got into his car, and pulled up, slowly, beside my boyfriend's car, leaving me stuck between a fence and his car. He rolled down his window, and asked if I needed a ride. I said, "No, I'm just waiting for someone," and turned away. He then introduced himself, and asked my name. Kind've freaked out, I told him my first name. He said he worked just over there, and I replied, somewhat peeved, that I went to the highschool right here, hoping he'd drop it, considering I was a minor. Instead, he went "Oh, well you're very pretty."

I'd guess the same with me. I just anger easy and won't stand for shit like that, whether it's happening to me, someone I know, or especially to someone I don't know.

You always think that you would do something like that. But then it happens and you're just in shock.
Also Nemmy, thank you, but it's a horrible feeling of needing a man around.I guess it's time to dedicate my life to self-defense.
