America [Abandoned]

Postby Aksun » Wed May 02, 2012 12:29 pm

I wonder out of curiosity... Why are we Americans worried about third world countries when our own is suffering?

Other: Europe will whine at us if we don't pretend to care as much as they pretend to care.

Because America at its peak was a very socially responsibility country. We generally knew we were wealthy, and that we could others not because we were forced to(though in some cases we are) but mainly because we wanted to. The same can't be said of us today though.

Our econ is terrible and so is Europe's right now. We should be focused on ourselves and you might have a good theory there.

Because America is inhabited primarily by humans who, by and large, are not sociopaths?

Ok fair enough. However, if we allow our economy to fall the third world countries will prosper while we die. In the worst case scenario our enemies (North Korea and Middle East ((Iraq and others))) will attack.

Who said anything about allowing our economy to crash? It is, shockingly enough, possible to have both economic growth and the assistance of third-world nations on the foreign policy table.

BTW, the 'Quote' function is your friend.

Because you want to distract the people and stop them from realising some parts of America are very much third world. Take tent cities.

How would North Korea attack when their economy is down the gutter, and i doubt that Iran and "others" would be stupid enough to attack the US of Worlds Largest and Most Powerfull Army of America.

Frankly, im not American, but i think you worry to much about war. Threats have been made, yeah, but the largest threat i think is terrorism.

It's easier to fixate on someone/something else than to focus on your own problems. (And I say that as an American)

Maybe because we want to have allies, and if we need anything, other countries could help us out. Im from a third world country and believe me, countries do need the help way more then we here in America. I had witnessed it first hand.

why should we aid they when we cant get thing under control in this country, We need to focus on our country not a country half way around the world. Why is it America's and Europe's responsibly to help them.

We could give it to empower their economies so they could then buy our stuff. We also give it to many countries in exchange for them supporting us and our interests abroad, for example Egypt became one of the largest recipients of US aid after recognizing Israel, signing a peace treaty with them, and coming over from the Soviet block, or Pakistan (kinda) helping fight the Taliban. While they didn't end up being the most reliable of allies, we were able to have them help us with the GWoT for the tune of a mere $20 billion/year, far cheaper than what we spend in a month.

Cynicism aside, we are still a country that values charity and helping others, even if our politicians don't always (or ever) represent such values with their actions.

America actually does more meddling in the third world than does any European nation, and probably all European nations combined at that. They're pretty infamous for it.

America is a very decadent nation, and it needs lots of stuff. Third world countries have stuff.

Because they got shit we want.
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman
