Arthur's Day

Postby Ifreann » Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:59 am

On this day 250 years ago, Arthur Guinness purchased a 9000 year lease on St. James Gate brewery and an Irish drinking institution was born.On this once in a lifetime event, people across the world will raise a pint of the black stuff to Arthur at a minute to six, 17:59. I know I'll be one of them, and I invite NSG to join me.

To Arthur!

To Martha!
"I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

I won't be able to have one at exactly the right time as I'll be singing evensong, but we'll surely be round to the local after the dismissal, you know how singers are.

It's not cold enough to be drinking Guinness.
You know you've made it on NSG when you have a whole thread created around what you said.

By the way, please excuse all spelling and grammar mistakes- they are indeed numerous and highly irritating. If its any consolation they annoy me just as much. Its just combing through and editing your post for a 3rd time for that last 'their' that should be 'they're' would last me to the next general election. I'm not good with keyboards. But I am a good speller in the real world. Really. I'm not just saying that.

Honestly.

I'll be in the middle of the sea on my way home so probably won't be getting the best of Guinness. I prefer to be swaying from side to side after drinking it rather than when I start drinking it.

To Llamas!

To be honest, it's a terrible ad,

I shall wear my Guinness boxer shorts today, purchased from St. James Gate, and probably drink a pint,
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Haha, if it was a couple days ago it was perfect weather to drink a pint.

Coincidentally, about two hours before this, it'll be the culmination of "Is Nodin To Be Made Redundant?" day, so one way or the other, I'll probably be joining in....

Hmmm and that's why they're shooting suspected drug dealers on sight even now.

"mainstream", I said. Whats lurking around now are some small splinter groups composed largely of the old and embittered and the young and clueless. I might add that they've threatened to shoot drug dealers, but haven't actually shot any, as they would both be outnumbered and outgunned in most cases. The odd incident may occur over the next few years but they'll fade into nothing eventually.

The movement has disbanded for all intents and purposes. Anyone claiming otherwise is trying to use a defunct name to instil fear.

The misguided Republican side of it, possibly. They were still content with robbing banks and shooting off duty policemen until at least the mid-2000s

Are you GMT? I have to make a quick clock calculation.

Never mind, I'm already over 4 hr. late.

Good to see an old establishment continuing.

Shame the tarmac that the company makes got mistaken for something drinkable at some point.

Stout is a wonderful drink. Shame Guinness is pretty much the worst example generally available.
