Absinthe isn't flavoured with liquorice. You might be thinking of pastis, which like absinthe is flavoured with anise, but also contains liquorice.

I've had absinthes which taste strongly of liquorice before. Could it be some of the other ingredients in it tast like liquorice?

Not really, no. I'd say that it's more probable that you never actually had any real Absinthe, seeing as how it isn't an actually defined and protected product in many countries.

My favorite pint drinks are Exmoore gold ale, and this ale from the Malvern Hotel which tastes like sweetcorn.

Wine (Red, blush, or dessert) tied with sake (Nihonshu).

Being in Japan I've really learned to love the wide range of sake and their tastes. Yummy!

I'm starting to really get into wine. I'm still in the eight to twelve euro range, but I'm starting to find some nice ones.

That said, If I'm feeling like getting arrested , I'm getting some gin.

Liquid.

I'm a big fan of the whisky family -- Islay single malts top the list, but any scottish whisky, followed by bourbon, then Irish. Not Canadian whisky; that's pure piss.

Absinthe does have a liquorice flavour. It's the anise.

In no particular order, my preferred forms of alcohol are beer, wine, port, (good) cider, rum, whiskey, 12+ yr scotch, and sometimes vodka.

Absinthe is pretty amazing too. I like it either the traditional way (water and sugar cube) or mixed with lemon-lime soda. The real-deal was recently made legal in the U.S., so that's what I'd recommend (look for the grand wormwood). And, yeah, the layperson would probably say it has a "black licorice" flavor, which probably comes from the anise, but there's also fennel in it which gives it a nice herbal tinge. Really, though, it tastes like absinthe and nothing else... Wikipedia has a good write-up on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe
