There's a few corrections to make here:

1) The Crusades were actually caused by the Pope trying to find something for the knights of Europe to do besides kill each other. The Byzantine Empire was under heavy pressure from the Seljuk Turks, and so the conclusion he drew was to tell the knights and warriors of Europe to go fight over east, without bothering to think through the consequences thereof.

2) That said, a cosmic disaster (IE an HFM, or Huge Fucking Meteor, or something of similar destructive capability) could end human life on Earth pretty much at any time without us being able to do jack-shit about it.

3) Seriously, the use of "homofaglatron" and "douche-o-meter" have marked you for death. Now, shout "YOLO" and prepare to see if that statement is true.
