No it's because marriage historically was not just to do with love but also with passing on of property, the family name, social stability, connecting families, etc - marriage isn't a private thing but also for the benefit of society and the nation as a whole. This still applies. Same sex marriage does absolutely nothing on this level so there's no point to it. Society doesn't benefit from it, why should society bless it?
Whaaa?
Same sex couples can have families (as in children), can have property to pass on, often have families to connect etc.
You do know that a homosexual couple isn't actually that different from a heterosexual couple when it comes to what their relationship actually does and the trappings that surround such a relationship?
I dislike this weird form of egalitarianism that insists gay relationships have to be considered the same as straight ones else someone is being hateful… they're not, and that's okay.
Besides wouldn't you feel a right idiot (assuming you're a man) saying "This is my husband"……… I know I would.
No, I wouldn't feel a right idiot saying that.
And same sex relationships should be considered the same as straight ones since they do and accomplish the very same things. Unless there is actually evidence permitting legal recognition negatively affects the state or individuals in the state then there is no logical or ethically justifiable reason for denying them this.
