Last night George Zimmerman was freed from police custody. Not sure if there is a thread on this topic already.

This is fucking horseshit. What the fuck are they playing at? The evidence is pretty conclusive that he shot an un-armed kid and it looks like he is getting off with barely a slap on the wrist! I'll bet every dollar I have that had Martin been white this wouldn't have even been an issue, Zimmerman would be in jail and we would have never heard of him or martin.

They're not playing at anything.... Zimmerman posted bond, and as such remains free on bond pending his trial.

And I'd bet every single dollar I have that if he won a nobel prize, he would not been classified as 'white'.

He's under house arrest for the time being, and he is not really at an escape risk, because with evidence provided, he has a case to provide. Such as the wounds to the back of his head, which does point towards a physical confrontation more than any execution-styled affair. And since he is not under state law to withdraw from a confrontation being part of a community group, it's overall a fairly big chance that he will walk, or face charges smaller than a second degree murder. So until all the evidence is gathered and the trial concluded, I will keep a fair distance, and not do what several commentators are doing and convict him. Playing a race game that does not fit the case, seeing as he has plenty of friends who are black.

Uh, it's called "bail".

Which is a constitutional right in all but extreme cases - which this isn't.

And yes, if the races of the two people involved had been reversed, this is still what would have happened. Trevor Dooley - a black 69 year-old bus driver who shot David James, an unarmed 41 year-old white Iraq war veteran in front of his 8 year-old daughter following an argument with teenagers skateboarding on a neighborhood basketball court met bail and went home to await trial.

This is perfectly normal.

Oh, and Dooley's bail was just $50,000, not the $150,000 that Zimmerman had to post. The lesser amount is probably due to Dooley only being charged with manslaughter, while Zimmerman was charged with 2nd-degree murder (which, in Florida, carries manslaughter as an option for juries to substitute in conviction when they think it appropriate; in all likelihood, if Zimmerman is convicted, it will be on manslaughter and not the original charge).

But then, this is how the system works. If you live in America, you should know this.

It's all Obama's fault. He was the one who let this happen and let a murderer out of jail. You heard Obama say if he had a son it would look like Trayvon. How do we know Trayvon wasn't an Obama son and that Zimmerman wasn't with the secret service and was using one of the presidents three free assassinations?

exactly! trayvon was into obama and a threat, and his mom didnt know!

In the US Legal system, we believe in this thing called not locking them up until the trial.Until he faces trail we are obligated to give him the ebnifit of the doubt of whther or not it was self defense. Also race doesn't enter into this, the exact same thing happened to a white person (In front of his daughter and another kid) and the shooter was back at his job driving a school bus the next day. I need to look up the case but I forget the exact names.

There is this thing...it's called bail. If you post bail, then they let you go on the condition you show up for trial (along with a cash thing, I believe).
