Your Philosophical Influences

Postby Svobodu » Tue Apr 17, 2012 11:29 am

I see people here have very strong opinions on matters of public policy. Without getting into debates about which is better, name the most influential people who helped shape what you currently believe in philosophically, politically, or economically. Everyone has some influence to thank, so don't say you don't have any :)

Lemme guess... you're a social darwinist who believes Business, by definition, it out-side the realm of morality, due to the need for individuals to assure their own fate?

Hah, not exactly. Nice puzzle building though. Came pretty close. Again, let's not say which philosophies are better. I just want to see people's influences.

Ronald Reagan,
Scott Brown,
Not really a famous person, but an influence on me nonetheless, My dad.

Probably more, but mostly people in my life, such as teachers, etc. No other famous people that I can think of at the moment.

I dont know much of people who have shaped me apart from my family. I guess it is more the local community (my village), and the nature here that has, though. Naturally, my Christian faith and the Holy Bible has been very important shaping my philosophical ideas. Also, the Centre Party with several of its members, as well as several 19th and 20th century persons such as Ivar Aasen, Jakob Sande, Aasmund Olavsson Vinje, etc, has somewhat influenced me, I believe.

i begins with platonicism and all Greco-Romans philosophers fllowed by Descartes and Kant, then i have studied Marx and Keynes to finally have my own vision based on the mutual respect of all life forms and a clear view of the whole multidimenssional multiverse as described by Schrodinger with his cat ...

You just listed a bunch of people who were "anti-imperialist". While this may be broadly true of all of them, if you think you can reconcile the worldviews of Mahatma Gandhi and Che-Guevara and incorporate their outlooks into your own philisiphy, you worldview is extremely simplistic and entails automatic sympathy to the charachters of every fool and despot who fights or fought against imperialism. Grow up.

Well, I never really cared for reading on the philosophy of others, but I guess my influences could best be described as follows:
Fidel Castro
John Stossel(Yes, yes, I know, completely unexpected, yadda yadda)
Ralph Nader
Zack de la Rocha
Richard Dawkins
And there's probably more, but I can't remember them. God, I must sound like the typical angsty teenager.
