As per my own beliefs: Do what you want but just try to avoid one-night stands, you'll only regret it.

Out of curiosity:

Do you believe there are no people who feel "naturally" inclined toward monogamy?

Don't know about that poster, but I personally would say, yes probably.
But I would treat it as a question of nature vs nurture... it's hard to say who naturally tends towards monogamy, and who is just imitating social standards.

I think there are people who are "serial monogamists" by nature. They become completely infatuated with one person, and are exclusively interested in that person, for a year or two. Then they cease being interested in that person and move on to another relationship.

That counts as "monogamy" in my book, since at any given time they have only one partner. Life-long monogamy is a whole other story.

I'm a serial monogamist, very much so. I have never been seriously interested in more than one person at a time, and when I'm hooked on one guy, it's like I just don't even see other guys. When my feelings towards the guy of the moment fade, wow! -- suddenly there are all these other men in the world.

As to life-long monogamy, I personally think that's a matter of the luck of the relationship draw, in that two people will likely stick solely with each other for an indefinite time up to their whole lives, IF they are not only good together sexually but ALSO very good friends.

However, I do believe that a lot of life-long relationships actually tolerate occasional episodes of infidelity which just never get talked about much.

What's the practicality of that, in your opinion? If you can explain without referring to religious dogma more the better, since I don't view "god told me so" as a practical reason.

What if you marry someone and find out you're completely dissatisfied or incompatible with them sexually? What if you wish you'd had more experience before, to keep things smooth and interesting with the one you want to be with, concievably, forever?

for me, not answering for RLC, it's because I view sex as an intimate act. a giving of oneself to another. when I find that special someone, I certainly don't want to give a used gift.

Iniika wrote:What if you marry someone and find out you're completely dissatisfied or incompatible with them sexually?
Do you base your marriage only on Sex? So what happens when Impotence sets in? do you get a divorce? buy a lifetime supply of little blue pills?

if you are a virgin, then wouldn't sex be new, interesting, and an adventure with that person? imagine, experiencing new things with someone you love.

the choice to with hold oneself until marriage doesn't have to be a religious one. and this is *MY* choice. if I find that significant other used to be a prostitute or porn star (hey... it's possible...) I certainly won't hold her to my standards or choices when it comes to sex. she made hers and if I love her, then I love her.
