Blogs

Postby Barringtonia » Tue Sep 22, 2009 3:31 am

Given my opinions are just too important to be limited by my locality, my friends too high to remember anything I say even though it's generally jaw-dropping in its originality, and NSG just doesn't seem to be read by those whose fingers lightly touch the levers of power...

I'm starting up a blog!

That's right, the subliminal messaging of many a comment left on NSG under frequent 'how do I chat up women', 'my girlfriend dumped me', and 'I'm dying from lack of healthcare' threads means I must seek a wider audience and I've heard these 'blogs' are a cheap means to do that, that I should 'get one'.

Of course, I need original content, which is no bother, and I need to write often enough to keep those hungry fans coming...

...but do you have a blog, how often do you update it, any tips and tricks for amassing a huge base of adoring fans, should it be focused on a particular subject or should it encompass the wide range of varied subjects I doubtless have an opinion on,

Is there a great blog you follow, or anything blog-related,

In before 'get a blog'

What do you think of blogs?

Qwendra has been resurrected and is looking for players who want to start anew and shape a government!

I used to have 3 but now I just use facebook. I had one to update family on the kids, and another to post random spam stuff, and another to complain about everything.

I used to update them about once a week.

Like I said, I just use facebook now.

I had a blog. It's still out there somewhere. No one read it, so I stopped writing.

EDIT: I think blogs are intrinsically good things, but nowadays there are just too many of them, and most are pure rubbish, so basically no one reads them.

I write about new bands, that I find. So far I've found over 100 new bands but I don't update as I used to due to life becoming very busy. Idea is to write about something you love. Some blogs are great for finding information/entertainment. Others are mundane things. Blogs are a mixed bag.

I'm considering starting one up. As yet I have no idea what I'll talk about, though.

A lot of blogs just seem like self-indulgent ramblings by those that write them. There are, by all accounts, loads of good ones out there. But the majority puts me off even trying.
The above post may or may not be serious.

That was pretty much my first post. It could be a good thing in that I haven't limited my subject matter but it could be a bad thing that I've no focus and will thus likely give up.

It's all so exciting...

Yes, one of my first thoughts was that there was nothing I was likely to post that I wouldn't post on Facebook,

I can see this in my future,

Is that a busy life at NME or is it not doing something particularly musical at all?

I'm hoping for a book deal.

Oh, dear.

I've never had a blog as I really don't have much to say.

I enjoy your posts about your experiences in Hong Kong, your explanations about psychological underpinnings of certain motivations and concepts, and others I can't think of right now. Not that you'd necessarily want to write about these things. Myself, if I read blogs they will be on a specific subject area by someone with some journalistic/academic expertise outside of the blog - an example.

I have a facebook page, and that's about as close to a blog as I'm likely to ever have.
The Empire of Pretantia wrote:[...] TLDR; welcome to the internet. Bicker or GTFO.
"Why is self-control, autonomy, such a threat to authority? Because the person who controls himself, who is his own master, has no need for an authority to be his master. This, then, renders authority unemployed. What is he to do if he cannot control others? To be sure, he could mind his own business. But that is a fatuous answer, for those who are satisfied to mind their own business do not aspire to become authorities." ~ Thomas Szasz

Ha. I'm not really a fan of NME. Life is just generally busy because final year of university has started up so swamped with more important things.

I need to start a blog, I think. I hate the idea of it, but I think it will be a necessary tool for my work. I need a free advertising space. I need a place to quickly and easily coordinate all my career activities -- big projects like starting up a publishing house; small projects like my various studio experiments; events like gallery exhibitions; classes I'm teaching; etc. I need a place to talk all that shit up, establish a context for it, create a kind of "manifesto" for the kind of surrealism I'm doing which nobody understands unless you blather on with statements about it, blah blah blah. Make some BS kind of celebrity out of myself with all that personal crap about hobbies, opinions, critiques, reviews, inner monologues about the tears and laughter of pasting pieces of paper together (I'm a collage artist). (I'll measure my success by the number of stalkers I accumulate.)

I have to give myself some kind of a project direction for the blog itself, some limitation on subjects, some stylistic structure, to help me generate content regularly.

And I need it all for free 'cause I'm broke. I'm looking at free blog sites this week.

Gods, I am dreading this process. I'm already getting positively Monk about it. But then, I dreaded in advance -- and hated in reality -- the process of the last big art show I directed, and that worked out really well in the end. So I guess I just have to suck it up and brace for the stress.

*shudder*

However, I am still not the topic of this thread.

blogging is just too intimidating for me. too much pressure to get it done, to be witty, to make an impact.

i have been considering doing that twitter thing. 140 characters is more my style. kinda sorta.

but then id have to keep up with that too. i dunno.

i dont read anyone's blog but now and then when i fall upon one that interests me, i do read it. that day, that entry.
whatever

That's basically what mine is. I put up bits of fiction and poetry and the like, and don't really care if anyone ever reads them. All it's for is as an objection to a society based wholly around consuming entertainment other people have made -- so I instead spend time each day writing something of my own, and post it up.
