Ohhhh, well done! That a serious contender for my favorite RPG, and most defiantly my favorite D&D based RPG.

"I shall inspire you all by charging BLINDLY ON!" :p

I've been meaning to use some of the mods that update BG1 into the BG2 engine to have a massive playthrough from level 1-40...but it's just too epic, I only ever get halfway. :p

The BG2 engine? Lol. "Let's update an 11 year old game into a 9 year old game's engine!" Last I heard, some one was trying to make a NWN2 mod for BG2.

Well there's nothing wrong with the engine itself - it does what it does very well. The difference between this two years is pretty significant though, since the BG2 engine lets you use any screen resolution , while the BG1 engine is locked at 800x600 (or was it 640x480?) which looks fucking awful in the current age of massive monitors unless you like pixels you can count individually. That's the primary difference (as well as allowing the new character classes in BG2 to be played from level one). Planescape: Torment has the same problem and theres a mod for it out too.

As for NWN2...meh...it's not great.

You've obviously never seen what a piece of paper can do to a rock. It would leave you as disturbed as I am. It will leave you wishing you were never born. Then we'd have something in common and can start discussing favorite cake recipes.

Starcraft comes in first for me.
At a VERY close second is Knights of the Old Republic 1

Other favs:
- KOTOR2
- Space Quest 1-6
- Commander Keen
Out of the night that covers us, Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
We thank whatever gods may be, For our unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance, We have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of change , our heads are bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears, Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years , Finds, and shall find us unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll,
We are the masters of our fates: We are the captains of our souls.

Through perseverance, perfection:
SOMOS INVICTUS!

starcraft is a copy of Warhammer 40k so this can be ignored as a stolen idea
also Dawn of War 2 is ranked higher (last time i checked) than Starcraft.

THE GAME

To be serious, the original Command & Conquer, Red Alert, and Dune games. All the classic Westwood RTS's.

So many good games coming up here. And here I thought we'd get more recent games. xD Well, there are a few, but, still.

Hungry Hippos was great. Spent so long playing that...

Westwood made AMAZING games, and I actually have to say that they're my favorite RTSs

Starcraft beats Warhammer hands down. Reason: Zerg Rush. Also, there's a Gundam mod that I really want.

But E.T.? NO! A curse thee with a rain of angry anvils!

On the other hand, one that I don't think I've seen mentioned was:

no, i don't think these were the greatest, but they deserve as much mention as many which have already been.

greatest game? NON-zero-sum.

that and perhaps the "game" of writing believable science/engineering fiction in believably alien settings with convincing alien cultures and maybe a twist of mystery thrown in.

the game of making the world we all have to live in a simultaneously more gratifying peaceful, safe, and secure place for everyone. all of the people and life forms you don't like as well as those you do.

that would probably be the most gratifyingly challenging, frustrating, and rewarding, one.

truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.
