Favorite Christian Sect?

Postby Brogavia » Mon Sep 21, 2009 2:49 pm

Whats your favorite Christian fringe sect of all time?

I'd say the Ranters, who worshipped by getting drunk, smoking and having sex.

If hey hadn't died out, and my town had a Ranter church, I'd be there several times a week.

I suppose some sect like the Doukhobors, for instance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doukhobor

But I could do without the whole lot of them, really.

This, definitely.

Real American Christianity, since as far as I know they're the only major Christian sect to be created IN America BY Americans with brand new theology directly regarding the Americas.

My favourite description of Abrahamic religions compared the Torah, Bivle and Quran to a trilogy of films. Mormons were described as the guys who wrote their own convoluted fanfic which they defend ferociously

The one where it's basically just formalities and tradition and there's no actually supernatural beliefs held by the congregation. Is that universalism or something else?

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.- Carl Sagan

Yes. At least they had good fiction when it came to their religion. The mythology and cosmology of Christianity (and Islam and Judaism) is so dull. IMO.

I like Quakers. They are probably among the most reasonable of christians, usually tolerant and have fairly enlightened beliefs. :)
