The situation is... interesting.

I just hope it stays relatively non-violent, and that they'll come to an understanding soon.

How was forcing him into exile legal?

The UN has suspended any assistance for elections scheduled for 29 November. A statement said Secretary General Ban Ki-moon did not not believe conditions were right for "credible elections".

I'm uncertain if that is a smart move, but I understand his worries.

The move is an asinine power play. It proves nothing and does nothing.

Considering the fact that the military is supposedly in chargeof running the elections in Honduras, and the fact that they were also partly responsible for the disruption of democracy in Honduras, this seems like an intelligent observation by the UN Sec. Gen.

Perhpas assistance could be tied to some sort of accord wherein international observers can monitor the whole election process.

Couldn't agree more with this. The problem is, that in Latin America, the army or the armed forces are aways in charge of monitoring the security of electoral proccess, but here those armed forces aren't neutral enough.

Quite a conumdrum.

Can an election under the present circumstances be free and fair?

Too much data hasn't been determined and too many variables are still free and out of control as to determine a good and coherent answer to that question.

I'm sorry but I do not approve of Zeleya coming back. He fuckin stormed a military base so he could hold an illegal vote. It's really the same sort of strong-arm tactics that Hugo Chavez used to slowly gain power. I'm not saying that the congress responded in the proper democratic fashion, but considering the recent history of brutal dictatorships in South America, I would not treat mr. Zeleya's actions lightly.

I think best that could happen is the UN OAS observes/runs the election and ensures it is fair.
In exchange the military accepts the results and
