Pretty much jack shit.

The real shitstorm will be after he wins reelection, which he unfortunately will given the crop of crazies, cronies and incompetents characterizing the Republican frontrunners. Obama isn't done inflicting his government transparency, hope and change on this country quite yet. I wonder if Timmy the Tax Cheat Geithner will remember to pay his FICA taxes this year?

Uh, what? You do know that Obamacare REQUIRES people who currently do not have private insurance to get it, right? It has increased the number of private insurance customers. By a lot. And it was by request of the private insurance industry.

but it gives a free option which employers will give to save bottom line, so fewer and fewer will have private insurance

Well, besides being a reasonable, rational president who isn't stuck in the 1950's America that the right wing seems to be stuck in, he's been a pretty cool dude. Eh sez stuff and doesn't afraid of anything.

I don't think that's really a gain. Obama isn't trying to give us free healthcare. He wants to force us to BUY healthcare. If you've read the stories you'd understand how greedy and untrustworthy the corporates can be. It sounds to me like he made a "behind the curtain" agreement with the insurance industry.

Well, of course no matter what health care won't be entirely free, someone will eventually end up needing to cover the bills, but I do agree that the system we're working towards right now really isn't what we need or have asked for. The corporations are not exactly ideal in handling the health matters of the people as they are in this for a profit, not necessarily to help the people who pay them; a government provided service might be much more preferable.

Of course, we should also consider that, if the bill didn't involve the private insurance companies, then it would never have passed in the first place because the general response would be that the government was trying to victimize the companies... Perhaps, if elections of 2016 are won by a Liberal, the supreme court doesn't decide people not dieing is "unconstitutional", and Obama reminds us he's a man a little more often and doesn't bow down to the criticism of Republicans, we'll soon be able to see the plan developed a little further and these sort of problems ironed out, but something is better than nothing at this point.

Funny thing about defensive pacts: They don't come into play if you're the one attacking.

Yep, the 'R' and 'D' are just for show, so next time you see a corporate news organization re brand a politician with the 'wrong' letter, remember, the correct letter would be 'E' for Establishment.

There are many other correct letters, but for the sake of a PG-13 rating, I shall not mention them.

By not running the horrible clusterfuck campaign his political adversaries ran, by running a serious VP candidate that had actually been vetted and added value and experience, by not stating a platform of war in Iraq for a century, and by simply being further distanced from Bush than his opponent?

Or did you just mean the fact that he's the most charismatic candidate since Kennedy, and Americans tend to vote for Presidents they'd kinda like to get a bear with?

Ah wait. I'm thinking I missed sarcasm somewhere, and you weren't actually trying to explain Obama's successful 2012 pitch at all, but were trying to take some kind of elitist swipe at his supporters, am I right?

Be fair, now. Ron Paul isn't stuck in the 1950s. The 1850s, maybe.

It's the ones arguably stuck in the 1750's, or even the Dark Ages, that are most fun to watch, really.

The healthcare thing is more on topic. Not really very 'socialist, of course, but we'll let that slide.

Personally, I wish we actually were looking at a NHS-style healthcare model. I've lived with the NHS, and I've lived without it. Living with it is better. And cheaper.

Its socialist.

Was it socialist when Republicans proposed it 20 years ago? Or when Romney put it into practice in MA? I just want to check for consistency.

Earth Empire wrote:I don't really care about this conversation but, not to be a dick, how can you be an atheist Muslim and a communist nazi? They kinda contradict.

There's no being a jerk about it, you just didn't get the joke. See, President Obama has been called contradictory things throughout his term of office. During the process of passing the healthcare initiative his opposition could be heard declaring that he was a Communist. An uproarious response to the announcement that the President would be delivering a message to school children involved accusations of him seeking to politically indoctrinate the next generation. Accusations of attempts to turn schools into Hitler Youth were not in short supply all the while. There has been a group of people screaming that the President is secretly a Muslim who has sympathies toward terrorists throughout his entire term of office, and these people usually also hold to the idea that he is not a native US citizen (but rather a Kenyan). Finally, the President's position on Roe v. Wade has led to accusations that he is an Atheist and a baby-murderer.

In short, my comment was parodying the ridiculous, oft contradictory names that the President has been called. The gag is that I have listed the things he has been called simultaneously. What you're seeing is just how ridiculous the opposition to the President really is from time to time. I in no way believe the President to be a Communist, a Nazi, an Atheist, or a Muslim. He's a Protestant Christian, a center-right Democrat with socially progressive leanings, and definitely a native-born American citizen.
