"THE RETURN OF THE CIGARETTE"

Directed by Ryanair

Coming Soon To A Plane Near You

'Smokeless' cigarettes which look like the real thing but do not have to be lit to provide nicotine to the user, are to be introduced by Ryanair.

Smoking on commercial flights has been illegal since the 1990s, but the airline says it will introduce Similar Smokeless Cigarettes, which it says look and feel like a real cigarette and deliver a small amount of nicotine through inhalation – passengers do not light the ‘cigarette’.

The new Similar Smokeless Cigarettes are available to passengers over 18 years of age and are sold in packs of 10 on board all of the company’s flights for €6.

A company statement said they contained no toxins or chemicals and were harmless to the user and to those around them.

Company spokesman Stephen McNamara said the 'cigarettes' were being introduced to help passengers who like to smoke and find it difficult to travel on an aircraft for a couple of hours without getting their nicotine hit.

As these cigarettes are smokeless they cause no discomfort to other passengers and can ensure a more enjoyable and stress-free flight for all passengers, as non-smokers will no longer have to cope with moody smokers in need of nicotine,” he said.

Anyone tried those things already? How do they taste?

If it's good stuff, we can return smoking in restaurants, offices, bars, parks...

However, the political correctness nicotine police will find new reasons to ban it.

Duh, they could just strip the plane interiors of most flammables and allow normal cigarettes.

They don't taste like much, but they provide one with a rapid influx of nicotine.
There is a line most people say they will never cross. It is usually something they have done long ago when they thought no one was watching.

A slap ion the face to the puritans who want to tell us what not to do to our bodies.

Will they find a way to ban these from bars and eateries also?

Oh, and now there is a movement afoot to ban smoking in parks and at beaches.

Smokers will be as ghettoized as sex offenders.

If it doesn't harm those around the user the, great! Permit it. It would certainly give people no reason to try and use the real thing when they can't.

The smell has never bothered me, but the smoke does. At least if the person is blowing smoke in my direction, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

I have to say, if an airline were to permit smoking on flights, I would no longer use that airline.

Much like talking on cell phones and listening to stereos, smoking is one of those things that disrupts and disturbs people; all three are acceptable in a large open space, like a park, where you can move somewhere else to avoid the annoying person, but in a small and cramped space shared with hundreds of other people with assigned seating, it's not really possible to avoid and therefore shouldn't be permitted.

I'm not sure about smokeless cigarettes, mind. I've never seen anyone using them, but they might be acceptable if they don't bother other people.

Only 30 years ago, my doctor was smoking inside his cabinet while treating patients. Really. :)
And most of my teachers in elementary school were smoking in the class room.

Yesterday, I was almost fighting with some fat ugly ridiculous woman because I was smoking outside in the patio. She was sitting 3 meters (9 feet) from me and she was eating some quadrupled sized burger with extra extra cheese, so I waited till she finished swallowing her, uhm, meal.

However, when she saw me smoking she shouted at me 'You're a bad example for your children! And do you know what you're costing to the society?' Posting my reply to that cow would be a violation of the forum rules. :p

And it's not that important either. Point is, that people are going over the top against smokers. One of my friends is extreme anti-smoking, his argument that I'm slowly killing him is so ridicilous because he's driving a BMW X6 and he's working in the chemical industry. :)

I don't understand all these people going "HAH TAKE THAT YOU SCUM-SUCKING PURITANS! I CAN SMOKE WHEREVER I LIKE NOW AND YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN! Although you certainly will, because you are petty and vindictive and want to control me!" Really? I'm sure there is a bit of discontent for smokers, primarily because it smells vile, and hey, there are indeed health risks for people other than you.

This pseudorette is fine, since neither the smell nor the health risks apply, so counting it as A VICTORY AGAINST THE MORAL IMPERIALISTS is a little... silly.

You are probably having a car. That car is also smelling a lot and they are a health risk for people other than you too. It's even much more unhealthy than cigarettes and you can always take a train/a bus/a bike...

Can we now demand that you stop driving while I'm on the bike?

I won't demand people stop smoking as long as they're not doing it three inches from my face, just like I won't complain about somebody driving a car as long as the exhaust isn't being expelled three inches in front of my face.

Even when you are driving miles away from me then you and your fellow car drivers are still polluting my lungs.

To be fair, cigarettes aren't exactly major polluters; but then, cars have an actual use other than recreation. 1-1 tie.

Unforunately, it isn't much of a victory. The new FDA rules in the US, for instance, ban

There is an irrational, prohibitionist movement composed of fame-seeking assholes like Richard Blumenthal that sees nothing short of complete eradication as acceptable.

I'm currently polluting you. Do you mind I'm smoking now? :)

:( Not really, no? I did just say so! This whole exchange makes me feel like I'm missing something important.

Also, considering I live in Australia, I'm betting you won't be polluting me for a half-day, at least.
