This is disgusting. I'm glad to hear the OP's ideas aren't accepted, I lost twelve friends total in my high school years to bullying, it was abso-fucking-lutely bad, not one person left that school without bullying affecting them negatively in some way.

I myself developed a slight drinking habit.

It pisses me the fuck off to hear anybody shedding good light on something as bad as bullying, even if your one little experience may have had some positive output, you still didn't escape unscathed, and this thread, the fact you even have thoughts that bullying can have positive effects, means you were hurt worse than you think.

There's a point where it gets out of line, but in general bullying is fine-ish. It makes tougher people, ready to face the real world, not sheltered little twits who can't function in society.

I wasn't a sheltered little twit who wouldn't function, I was happy and free, and a lot of people were really normal, but some people, maybe they were a little overweight, or short, but socially average and generally content [Though obviously sensitive of their weaknesses, which is highly reasonable], got hammered on, it was painful to watch, and sometimes [Though regretfully not always], We'd defend them, they were a good people, I knew one guy who was an amazing artist, great grades, but was asexual, picked on all the time for JUST that, and that alone, which to me makes no sense, gay maybe, some people are assholes, but someone who has no preference? Really?

No one person likes being picked on for imperfections in their being, its even harder with girls sometimes, because we tend to have more insecurities which bullies pick up on, and with things such as Facebook and twitter where people socialize, bullying can go to levels beyond, but I assume that's what you address as "Out of line", but it always is. Bullying is not acceptable, most agree, some partially such as you, and others not at all, which saddens me, because when is it ever okay? Whats wrong with who you are? Nothing, nothing at all. [Unless you do indeed have something medically differentiating from the majority, making you different in some way. Still, picking on them for it isn't acceptable, they cant help it, its not their fault]

I used to be bullied around quite a lot as a kid, until I eventually learned to hit back, which involved bluffing and intimidation far more than it did involve actual physical force. In other words, I learned to play a rabid dog that everyone deems too dangerous to bother, and I still use this tactic around people that I don't feel safe around with.

The only problem is, genuine sociopaths don't fall for this deception, not even because they would see through it, but simply because they are incapable of being intimidated by it. This has resulted in a few quite painful backlashes, but otherwise works well on most normal people.

Anyway, bullying is part of the natural animal way of determining the pecking order in the pack. One thing I've learned in my life is that you must always hit back if struck (figuratively and literally), or you will always remain somebody's bitch. So I think it is beneficial because it toughens one and teaches one to stand up for himself. Respect and approval is never handed on a silver platter, it can only be earned with sweat and sometimes blood. Of course, it may drive some hypersensitive weaklings to suicide, but then again, the world doesn't have much use of overly emotional folks anyway.

I don't buy into the "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" bs. Years of bullying hurts. It hurts real bad, man.

Besides, what if you survive getting your eyes, ears, arms and legs blown off?

People will find any reason to pick on others, especially kids. Everyone has been bullied, and has bullied others, to a certain degree. I was mildly bullied, and I mildly bullied a few kids- it was a give and take thing.

I view bullying a rite of passage children go through. It makes them able to handle their shit, and as mentioned earlier seems to determine people's place in the pecking order in a weird way.

So, if I was bullied because maybe them bitches ova dere dun liek mah hair, so they spread horrible, horrible rumors, does that mean something is wrong with my hair style.. its inferior?

Perhaps on a more sensible level, maybe I'm short [Or really Tall], and am picked on "Mildly", how could I handle that? Even if I retaliate, isn't that what they wanted - a negative reaction? Does it hurt any less, to be made fun of, belittled?

There is no pecking order in society, anyone can aspire to anything if they want to, unless their hopes and dreams are crushed because bullies say they are inferior to them. Is that the sort of pecking order? The Short, skinny kid who wants to ascend cant because the tall, Strait-D student on the basket ball team says he cant, he cant do anything because of his size, his physical traits?

Why should he change? There's nothing wrong with being a little skinny, we are a civilized people, there is no survival of the fittest, everyone should be able to just be themselves, no one is any better than the other, but with bullying, it establishes a pseudo sense of that. I felt inferior to the girls with blonde hair, perky breasts, and all the latest fashion clothing and purses [Who also hogged up all the most attractive guys], not because I originally viewed myself as such, but because years of constant attack from their clique led me to believe so - but you know what? As I later found out, she dropped out, I've heard she really isn't doing well. While I normally pity such cases, sometimes I just think, well, Bitch had it coming. She tormented me, and focused less on the important matters and more so on putting down as many girls [and some boys] as she possibly could, and so she now suffers for it.

I'm not saying anyone who bullies will end up like [unnamed girl], but I want to stress its never alright to be made to feel any less, everyone is beautiful in their own way, absolutely. Everyone has the god given right to be happy, it doesn't take someone to tell you whats wrong with you for you to feel good with yourself. Bullying is not acceptable. It doesn't strengthen us, it brings us down, we suffer for it. People die, the few that claim they prosper in the end haven't, they were fine the way they were, they shouldn't need the tools to defend against such things, and while its good to hear you all find happiness in the end, to say something like bullying was a thing you benefited from just is not true. I've never heard of anyone ever being picked on by a bully and agreeing with them, it was only till later that they were forced to change because of the bully[ies].

At first, you do, but where I live, the schoolyard fight isn't the end. It never is, and even if you don't you just skipped the fight, not the bulk.

After that it leads to months of verbal abuse of all the main bully's associated friends and acquaintances, MySpace at the time was where it hit hard, Slut, Whore, Bitch, must I go on? You were made unlikeable, in worst cases, friends in fear of being equally treated back off, no one wants to date you, everything you do is frowned upon, you are totally alone, at which by then you probably have a case of MDD or close to it due to isolation.

Though, there are many times where your friends stand by you, and you all suffer the storm. Not like it hurts really any less, just you have someone to fall back on, fighting is a small part, its the Mental abuse the burns.

I'm saying that if children weren't discouraged from schoolyard fights to extent that they are expelled or something from school they wouldn't resort to guns after years of abuse. Bullying toughens up the kid and teaches them to have thicker skin and stop being a thin skinned little weakling makes them learn to stand up for themselves rather than be sheep, and weeds out the weaklings. It made me stronger and taught me to fight back, that others words and thoughts of me unless they were useful to me were simply dirt and that all people unless they are useful to me are simply lower than dirt and to not care about what they say about me unless it directly effects me. Also taught me to never trust anyone always watch my back and fight tooth and nail for myself and myself alone, no one ever came to help me and i learned nobody was going to help me and i learned i must only help myself unless i directly benefit from helping them they are useless to me and to simply ignore them. I don't have my father in my life so i need to fend for myself, I'm the perfect bullying target i go to school in a relatively wealthy neighborhood and i am poor, also I'm an African-American and i have red hair, black eyebrows, and blonde mustache so i was a pretty good target for people until i showed them what happens if they mess with me. when i was in Elementary it was either 2nd or 3rd grade after school this one little slut kept on pushing me in the mud, she would when i wasn't looking run up behind me push me on the ground run away to a safe distance then laugh at me, one day she forgot to run to a safe distance and just laughed at me when i got back up and turned around she was smiling this annoying little smile so i punched her in the face, and then threw her in the mud i preceded to bite and choke on her neck until one of the adults hit me over the head with a plank, from then on everyone knew if you mess with me I'm going to mess you up badly. "Survival of the fittest" animals in the wild have predators to get rid of the weak, we humans have Bully's.

I was hit with the slipper for not handing in homework once and I remember it with such clarity, because I never failed to hand it in on time again.

I never feared the slipper after that because I knew I would try my hardest and as long as I did that I wouldn't be subject to the punishment again, perhaps I was a fast learner, but I don't remember many children getting the slipper too often, most children would be punished, and be steered straight.

In my country, in a government school, they had various methods of punishment, ranging from caning you till you're unable to sit and hitting you again when you can't sit, making you get on your knees on a floor with various seeds scattered, hitting your knuckles with a ruler until they'd rupture or the teacher got tired and standing on one foot and getting hit if you lose balance or get one of the questions the teacher would ask you during the process wrong.

Back then, they tended to use those once the students got older, so 12+.
