Okay, I hardly know his political views but half of my friends tell me he's a PSYCO CONSPIRACY THEORIST! And my other friends tell me he's A POLITICAL GENIUS! I'm just curious what the popular opinion is. Note: Please state your reasoning behind your vote.

I think you have strange friends, if they even know how LaRouche is, let alone have strong opinions on him.

He is the equivalent within politics of L. Ron Hubbard. I knew a fellow in Ann Arbor who was acquainted with "Larouche" back when he still used his real name, Lyndon Marcus. At that time he called himself a Trotskyite and the aim of his group was to send "flying squads" to break up the meetings of deviationist leftist groups (any group calling itself "socialist" or "communist" that wasn't his), and he was widely suspected of being an FBI plant. The group took on an increasingly cultish tone: the members were expected to devote themselves full-time, for little or no pay, to copying tracts and trying to sell them, were discouraged from maintaining any contact with former friends or family, and were often kept locked in. One captive managed to sail a "Help" note on a paper airplane launched out the window of a high-story apartment in which she and a dozen others were kept. After this bust, Lyndon lay low for a while, and changed his name. In the 70's he went through a variety of conspiracy stories: at first he claimed to know the secret of nuclear fusion, and the world's troubles were caused by the oil companies trying to suppress this knowledge, along with Jane Fonda and other lefties whose anti-nuclear messages were designed to poison the world's mind against nuclear fusion, somehow; but then the conspiracy was the British royal family and the world's drug cartels for a while. His attacks against Britain won him some significant funding from Saddam Hussein, and led to another bout of legal trouble. Since the fall of Hussein he has been mostly interested in more traditional "it's all the bankers and the Jews and the Freemasons" types of conspiracies.

Good ol' Lyndon LaRouche.

I had coffee with him once.

Interesting fella.

I once saw some of his followers protesting outside of the Post Office, and since they seemed to be against the bailouts I started talking to them. I kind of stopped paying attention once they said that the American Revolutionaries were fighting against the ideas of Adam Smith as epitomized by the English (there are several things wrong with that statement), and it kind of went downhill from there.

Isn't he the guy who has a strange phobia of all things British? I've met a few sympathisers from his movement, nice people but they're incredibly loony.

They provide a source of entertainment in politics, which otherwise can be very mundane and repetitive. And we need someone who can hate on the British.

LaRouche claims to have THE political answer to every social problem, and if only voters were to give him free reign to engineer society like a dictator, everything would be much better.

Some people are attracted to such confidence. The more of his materials they read, they more fanatical they become.

Doesn't almost every leader claim to have "the answer" to everything?

I think he's still a registered Democrat. It's a shame they can't expel or disown him.

Probably, but LaRouche thinks he's saving the world from themselves. The "follow me and you'll be prosperous forever" type.

He has a representative, Jacques Cheminade, standing as a candidate in the French presidential election this year.

His current standing in the polls, thankfully, is 0%.

A long time ago, in high school, a fellow informed me that most of the drug money in this world was laundered through Buckingham Palace by the royal family. Even at the young and tender age I laughed at this joker and walked away. But I did research good ol' Lyndon for debate. If you wanted to through out an idea that no one had heard of before he was a good source. Not reliable or factual but a good source for getting the other side to go 'WTF?'
