Georgia constitutional change
Constitutional change more in depth

I think this is just stupid the GOP in Georgia hates obama so much they want to block federal reforms that help people. I actually think it's straight politics and also some form of racism but mostly politics and I think it's just wrong and if the GOP success in that and the state fails all those lawmakers that support the constitutional reform should be able to be beat up in public just because of there idiocy see if there state stays populated and afloat.

What do you think of this state constitutional change to block federal reforms?

Wow you actually tried to pin this on racism. So what any disagreement with Obama is automatically racism now? I also like how you suggest that people opposing Obama's health care plan should get beat up, nice. Hell why doesn't everyone who opposes Obama on any issue just get beat up, they're all racists anyway.

Presumably state constitutions beat federal law on some level. Or at least give cause for secession. ;)

Stupid and racist go hand in hand so often, I'm sure you can see how one can get confused.

Hmm, Seem to remember something about a State Government attempting to block federal laws in Arkansas at some point... State didn't win if I remember right... Course, Republicans, for being so traditionally minded, never seem to learn very well from history...

Considering that part of being a State in the United States is agreeing to abide by and support the Constitution, I would assume not.

There's a clause in the federal Constitution called the "Necessary and Proper" clause.
The Congress shall have Power - To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.
If Congress thinks health-care is necessary, and passes a law about it, then wouldn't Georgia have to follow the law because of Article VI?

Article VI:
All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Relevant portion bolded.

It seems very . . . not open to interpretation.

Hey, I just had a great idea! What if they made a death panel game show? Contestants would compete in a variety of competitions to prove that they're the most healthy, and the winner gets to take home free health care. The government could use ad revenue to fund the program! It would be great!
