When you get 100,000 people in a football stadium, I can understand how security is top priority.

Now what if the kid was carrying pepper spray, and if there was a license for such a thing, had one.
Dolphin girl, it was a high school game.

Is it allowed by the rules of the game? If not, he's out, regardless of his license

See, here's the thing though. I find most "weapons" laws to be extremely... random. A handgun I could see classified as a weapon (it's hard to envision any other use). A knife can be a tool, as can a shoelace, a belt, a purse, a set of keys, a fingernail file, a laptop battery, a shoe, or a chain wallet (also classified as a weapon in some places). However, I could use also all of these things to seriously injure or kill somebody.

Hell, in most fights, a heavy purse would be more useful than a knife.

This is why I find such "anti-weapons" measures to be ultimately random. How the fuck do we tell what is and isn't a weapon?
Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

A football could be used as a weapon, as could a football helmet, and a shirt could be used, if the person knows that he's doing, to choke someone.
And I do not know all of the rules of H.S football, I would assume a cop would not kick a old lady out for having pepper spray.

thats why they have professional rent-a-cops?

beats me.

sometimes its quite obvious. like the gang of kids with baseball bats and bad attitudes. sometimes, like with this laptop battery thing, you would never know if you werent told about it (and have the kid confess). but it is a good thing to keep the number of potential weapons to a minimum in a large gathering of people who have a tendency to misbehave.
whatever

However, those items are all primarily for other purposes. Carrying something for no purpose other than an act of violence is easier to enforce than determineng everythings capacity for violence. It also indicates a preperation for violence above and beyond the average person. As police are not psychic, they can only enforce a law banning weapons if they can positively identify something as a weapon, rather than a potential weapon with a different purpose

None of those uses are really connected to carrying one in a pocket to a football game. In fact, if you were hoping to use it to power a laptop, I recommend would not take it to a crowded sports event , where it may become damaged far more easily
Besides, in your OP you asserted he was carrying it for self defence

I would hope that he was aware of the rules. I'd hope he would also be aware that something he had on him could easily be constured as a weapon. In light of that, he was foolish and the police action was reasonable, as apparently the risk of violence was high enough that people are likely to carry weapons

From what I gathered, he did not know all of the rules, the basic rules of course, however rules regarding laptop equipment he did not know, he probably did not think about the fact it could be taken. He was foolish I again, however I believe if the police kept a eye on him, he should have been allowed to watch the game.

Planning on fighting is a good way to start a fight. In any case the kid with the weapon would get it worse. There is no "self defense" in a High school fight, the best defense is to tell someone before it starts. Everyone knows when a fight is going down. I remember the days... I was the wimpy kid. Now I'm a U.S. Marine, and I'm confident I could fuck up anyone who used to fight me/or who want to fight me. Lets Go, punk!

Not to poke into your life, but when did you start becoming the macho (if you will) marine you are today, I mean, did you have enough muscles in H.S to moderately hurt someone?
