Not really. Less currencies = less interesting variation of things, meaning stamp duty on Forex for the worlds' governments, people trading in different currencies to get goods worth more/less and the like.

Wouldn't there be more stability though? There would be no speculation, and no one could destroy another country's economy by manipulating there currency. Also, you couldn't give yourself an unfair advantage by undervaluing your currency.

Bugger stability to be honest. Being humans, we get bored of it. Thus affairs and the stock markets.

Rhodmhire, please don't quote the link. That's just one more post for the mods to fix.

Good point. Governments wouldn't really be that keen on losing yet another revenue source, either.

My nation's currency is part of its heritage. If we lose that we lose a piece of ourselves. My answer is no. I'll be happy to barter services and military equipment with you, though!

Not for long. ;)

What would we swap to instead?

Pounds Sterling - not enough of them
The Euro - there are still EU members who don't use it for various reasons
The Rouble - LOLOLOL
The Yen - Big Numbers = No
The Rupee - See above
The Chinese Monopoly Money Export Currency - No

The euro could be the next currency if we don't manage the dollar right for the next decade.
