High School students in Oklahoma were asked were asked basic questions about government and failed miserably. Only 3% of them would have passed a US citizen ship test which asked these questions.

So I ask the question; Is our children learning?

Apparently not subject verb agreement...

Well if the questions given in the article are really truly what they had to answer, then they shouldn't of had so mcuh trouble.

"Only one in four public high school students can name the first President of the United States according to a new study commissioned by the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs.

One thousand students were given 10 questions drawn from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services item bank. The test was relatively simple, with questions like "who is in charge of the Executive Branch," and "who wrote the Declaration of Independence.""

Here's what History.com has. 96 question citizenship quiz based on the official citizenship test.

I missed one question, but I know U.S. gov't & history pretty well.

No, the liberals are the ones who are teaching, its the conservatives who skew the education system by trying to get ridiculous things like prayer in school, creationism, ect.

I wonder if they got multiple-choice questions.

I think the questions in the video are a bit too political. There was only one geographical question. Is it really THAT necessary to know all the specific names of parts of the political documents? I myself don't know anything about the Belgian constitution for exemple and I bet that most in my country don't either. I don't think it's that much different in most countries.

Lots of people being ignorant does not make it good to be ignorant. If you spend much time reading NSG you will soon see the value in knowing that much detail about the various documents. It's because so many people base arguments -- and political views, public policies, and votes -- on claims about what is stated in each document and what it means and how it relates to this or that.

And they are often demonstrably wrong.

But if they LEARNED the facts properly, they might construct fewer dumbass arguments based on misconceptions.

Children = society = the cause of all problems.

No, obviously they aren't learning, they're too busy getting oral sex and listening to a bunch of rappers or talking about breast sizes or whatever they're doing now that's so much more significant than a somewhat decent education.

Our teachers are underpaid and forced to teach to state tests (so that they can get their funding) created by politicians who don't have a clue what's really going on in our education system. Furthermore, you have extremists on both the right and left trying to shove their agenda down the throats of our children. We need to get back to basics.

No, only one answer.

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

You know, of course, the reason why these schools are rubbish is because they're run by the government, and no amount of funding will solve this problem; they'll keep functioning no matter how badly they perform, because they don't have worry about things like bankruptcy like the private sector does.

I got 19/20, 95% correct. I missed question 9 because I wasn't sure whether to pick the option containing New Hampshire or the one containing Kentucky. I guessed wrong on that one.

All my answers except that one were based on a combination of what I learned in school and everything else I've paid attention to in my life. And to think I started school after the end of school prayer. Gosh, how did I manage it?

Yeah, because the private sector contains no examples of people not having to worry about bankruptcy or failure just because they run their businesses like shit, drive them into the ground, and/or loot the coffers of their own companies like a bunch of pirates, but still get to go on to their next ransacking with multi-million dollar bonuses.

10/10, only one that threw me off was who wrote the DI, I was thinking Madison at first, but that was because of his title as "The Father of the Constitution." I quickly corrected myself and went Jefferson.

Very few threw me off, because I don't know all the modern names and such.

And question 31. technically can't be answered from me yet, unless you consider Kennedy as a "Senator" although he's dead.

But yeah, overall I'd pass. Not too hard, but I'm not a member of society.
