Obama Sunday Media Blitz

Postby You-Gi-Owe » Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:03 pm

On Sept 20, President Obama will be appearing on at least five (5) Sunday/Sunday-evening news shows. I'm not certain what he hopes to accomplish. I believe the typical U.S. citizen may watch one episode of Obama Sunday, if any. Is B.O.'s ego so inflated that he believes that anyone other than hard-core constituents and the professional media pundits will watch him more than once on the same day, again, if at all?

Check your local scheduling and fire up the DVR or VHS or whatever, it's going to be a long ride.

How will you celebrate Obama Sunday?

By sleeping through it.

Just like I do every other regular Sunday of the year.

Don't you think that the fact that not everyone would watch every show is exactly why he's appearing on more than one? Are you really supposing that the message is actually going to be some sort of five part affair, with each segment ending with, "And if you want the answer to that, tune into NBC's Meet the Press in one half hour!" rather than him pitching in different venues to increase the amount of people who hear it?
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Actually, I wish it would be that, with a graphic novel to come out next year to carry the story further, and maybe even reserve some plot developments for the series of movies.

Although I suppose it might be amusing to watch all of the shows to watch Obama become progressively more glassy-eyed and monotone as he goes along*, I will likely watch only one. Maybe. If I'm not busy walking the cat or something.

(* And I couldn't even do that because he's already taped all or most of the shows. Clips have already been leaked.)

Is B.O. the new way for 'cool' Republicans to refer to the President of the United States? What happened to 'Sauron/The Dark Lord', 'Obamination' and 'that damn nigger'? Or is referring to the President via a synonym for body odor just a way to show your respect for the office?
I AM DISAPPOINTED

Meh, people on the left called Bush "shrub" all the time (not to invoke the "b-b-b-but they started it!" complete nonsense). I mean, if this was the worst they did it wouldn't be a thing. A little name play between parties is the least of our worries. Yeah, it's childish. "Shrub" was childish. I'm more worried about things like "We came unarmed, this time"

I don't think it's so much that opposing people give wacky dis-respective nick-names to a particular president... But that it's people who formerly required "respect for the office" [when their guy was in it] of the opposition, who are now using wacky dis-respective nick-names...

I could personally care less what someone calls the president of the US... But don't sit there and tell me that I have to worship the president when it's your guy in, and then turn around and start calling the president dis-respective names when it's not... That is that "h"-word thing....

Here's my problem with that. Absolutely there was a culture of all of that, "The President, right or wrong, blah blah blah." And it was coming from those on Yu-gi-oh's 'side.' But once we subscribe to this absolute binary where everyone is responsible for all of the sins and contridictions on their 'side' our conversations devolve into ridiculous 'oh yeah, well...' I don't want to answer for the behavioral standard of every crazy hippie he can dig up and if we are to rise above it we have to not cherry pick something from his side and then use it as a standard to hold him against. For all we know Yu-Gi-Oh specifically didn't care and so this is par for the course. If Yu-Gi-Oh specifically espoused the 'respect the man' thing, then yeah, fair game. But I just don't think we're doing ourselves any favors by degenerating into the "well someone like you said this so that makes you a hypocrite."
