Mommy Made Me Beat Him Up!

A black mother and child--to make us all feel better about ourselves. Disclaimer: Boredom works wonders.

9/18/09 @ 9:23 p.m. est, and nobody's on.

The forum is barren, and I'm alone.

This is the only interesting thing I saw in the news today, I don't know, maybe it'll spark discussion.

Woman ordered son, friends to beat up teen, police say

(CNN) -- A Maryland mother faces assault charges for allegedly ordering a group of teens to beat up a 14-year-old who was stabbed in the ensuing melee, Baltimore County police said Friday.

Kimberley Lyn Cudanin, 34, told her 16-year-old son and at least four of his friends to attack Malaki Malloy as retaliation for a recent assault against her 14-year-old son, police said in a news release.

On Saturday night, Cudanin drove some of the teens to where Malloy was, about a mile from her home, police said. Those teens and others at the scene then beat and stabbed Malloy and three friends who were with him, police said.

Malloy was released from the University of Maryland Medical Center's shock trauma center Monday, hospital spokeswoman Cindy Rivers said Friday.

Cudanin and her son Andre were arrested Monday and face first- and second-degree assault charges, police spokesman Bill Toohey said.

Four other teens face the same charges after being arrested Wednesday: Leo Eades, 17; Marvin King, 16; Malcolm Scott, 15; and James McBride, 16. All are being charged as adults, police said.

Police are looking for two other suspects, Toohey said.

Warren Brown, defense attorney for at least one of the teens, could not be immediately reached for comment Friday.

An attempted murder charge is likely against the person alleged to have stabbed Malloy, Toohey said, but police have yet to determine who that person was. Investigators do not think it was Kimberley Cudanin, he said.

In fact, investigators do not think she assaulted anyone, but under Maryland law, her role in the attack warrants the assault charges, Toohey said.

Let's just say there's a time in every kids life where he starts to be forced to make decisions of the just versus the unjust on his own time and in his own ways, and this kid missed the mark for that oppurtunity.

I can understand, in a way, a mother's reaction to her boy getting abused--I was abused as a kid from time to time, never stabbed or even really physically hurt badly, but I can sympthisize a bit.

I find it adding to the evil how she took command over those (probably) innocent teenagers to do her bidding, I mean you can't just call the guy's parents and talk it out, or have a face-to-face conversation with the guy himself?

You send a couple of teens to beat him and his friends up like they're your gang? What's she like 34?

Maybe a society that lives off of pretending to be gangster got to this mom, hell I don't know.

Whoever's left of the dwindling NSG forum tonight, give me your responses.

And let me know I'm not alone.

Well...it wouldn't be fair for the mom to beat up the 14 year old, so she decides to even the odds by....having 16 year olds gang up on the.....14 year old.....

Wow....someone has been watching too much Gangland.

Heard of it, almost watched the Labor Day Marathon, but I just couldn't adjust to the likely content.

Just to clear the air, is it about gangs?

And yes, it is a stupid question, give me a stupid answer to level the floor.

Jail won't solve anything for anyone here. As nice as punishment can feel for people wanting a morally superior feeling/complex it really would not solve anything except teach the "innocent (lol)" teens how to become hardened criminals.

Some mandatory anger treatment and community service would be best. They all need to learn some conflict resolution skills. Including the one who got injured.

Everyone involved needs to understand that what they did was wrong and the adult in the situation needs to see a psychologist and get the largest "community service" penalty.

is your name Rob...?

anyway I voted lonely... But I think the bitch should definitely get some jail time, community service might be better for the kids, although the stabber might deserve a little more.

I can't.

I've been around long enough to know that "anger management" is not a good response. People, including this adult child and the children whose lives she's corrupting need to know that actions have consequences. A class in anger management and conflict resolution should be given after the consequences have been dealt out. You don't make people grow up through the use of sweet reason and lectures - a dose of kita may be the best way to get her attention, after which you can try sweet reason, if she's bright enough to get it.

We remember back when mothers used to do their own damn work. Remember the mother who impersonated someone on MySpace and made a girl commit suicide?

I'd actually love to agree with this. It makes reasonable sense and will probably work as well as anything else. But once a kid has been stabbed, something inside me says a line has been crossed and community service should no longer be an option for any of the participants or the Mother.
It all really depends what we are trying to do with criminals. If rehabilitation is our sole aim , I think that Natapoc's solution is almost certainly best. If we think there should be a degree of punishment for the wrongdoer, I think that community service far too soft an option here.
Personally I think that there should be an element of punishment, but I start to wonder if that feeling is entirely counter productive and we'd better thinking in terms of rehabilitation only.

I love my hometown. You know how people have fantasy football. Well, here in baltimore, I tried to get some of the guys I work with to have a fantasy crime league. Everyone would pick a neighborhood, each crime would have a point level, & at the end of the year, the winner would take the pool. The guys thought I was sick, but they play up to 4 fantasy football leagues a year. I thought it was a good idea. The only thing I can say about the city I live in is the culture is f***ed up & I'm glad I wasn't raised here.
