Bill O'Reilly Backs Public Option

Postby Tunizcha » Thu Sep 17, 2009 4:10 pm

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/17/bill-oreilly-backs-public_n_290658.html

My jaw was wide open for a few minutes when I saw this on the front page of HuffPo.

HuffPo wrote:Bombastic Fox News host Bill O'Reilly made a rather notable policy pronouncement on Wednesday's show: he supports the creation of a government-managed health care plan if it provides working Americans with an affordable option to other private insurance plans.

If there is going to be mandatory enrollment I don't see how there can't be a public option.

Of course the criticisms about it eventually eating most of the private sector (esp. if the 'golden wonka ticket' plans are taxed) is probably correct, but so be it. Healthcare really isn't insurable over the life of a person anyway.
The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.

Has he been fired yet?

You know, I can see them sitting around at Fox, Bill, Beck, Hannity, all of them, after a few drinks ... "Okay, Bill, you come out for the public option, it'll be a hoot, all those liberal heads exploding all of the place!"

The funny thing is, he doesn't know he's backing the public option. What he advocates differs from his view of the public option (which is composed of death panels, 100% tax hikes, slavery [of white people], and Socializm), when in fact, he's actually advocating for it.

I immediately thought of that song when I saw that link, and clicked it anyway.

But for some reason I think this is just some kind of bullshit stunt. I can't see O'Reilly standing behind anything with a compulsory element to it.

Nah. This is only the beginning, really. What happens when two major political forces in a country unite?

What would be funny is if some up and coming right-wing Dittohead pundit saw this as a chance for a moment in the spotlight and tried to denounce O'Reilly as a Liberal Obammunist for this.

If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

I find it hard to believe people would have a problem with a public option...personally, I'd love to see the poor and elderly signed up for government health insurance rather than relying on patently broken systems like Medicare and Medicaid.

I think he believes that some bill is likely to be passed weather he wants it or not, and that it's likely to include a public option. He just wants to be on board. Plus he gets the publicity. If the bill falls through, no harm no foul, most likely no one will ever remember.

Bill O'Reily may often be wrong, and he may often be a jackass, but this is not the first time he has shown himself to be slightly less mad and fanatical, at least, than his fellows like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbau, and Glen Beck.

Nice to have you on our side for a change, Bill. :)
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.
