I hate what jerks have done to the concept of marriage. I understand it's a cross-faith, cross-"lifestyle" (for lack of better one-word word) thing, but people need to realize that it takes a lot of hard work and commitment, and that it can't just be about me. Of course American society seems especially geared for only taking care of "number 1" and not worrying or caring about anyone else. Terrific.

Note: I fully support a broad range of marital rights, but I think our society needs to redefine what marriage is at it's essence. It shouldn't be about the title, the wedding day, or the ring on the woman's finger (or even the gender of the participants, so long as both want to get married). Time was it meant something, and was worth working for. My wife and I have our conflicts, about pretty much anything possible (ironically, all the small things, it seems) but both of us are willing to compromise, and work with each other toward one common goal, it really doesn't seem that hard to us, and we couldn't be happier.
