Not symbolic, strictly speaking catholics believe that it literally (not figuratively) becomes the flesh and blood of jesus as they eating. So the cannibalism in the ritual is literal.

Really? Because it still tastes like a sticky flavorless wafer and wine to me.

When he has committed an actual crime that renders him unfit to teach. If he lacks the proper credentials to teach. If he is really, really bad at teaching. If he is abusive. If he is often truant.

None of the above true? Let him teach and mind your business.

The Catholic Church teaches that when the bread and wine are consecrated in the Eucharist, they cease to be bread and wine, and become, respectively, the body and blood of Christ, each of which is accompanied by the other and by Christ's soul and divinity. The empirical appearance and physical properties are not changed, but for Catholics, the reality is.

The OP is right, the argument is based on emotion, not reason.

Which means it's a flawed argument for most things other than the quality of a work of fiction or not trowing something out.

But, I guess I could be wrong... I guess people's emotions don't really play as much of a factor in shaping their attitudes as much as I thought.

I practice my principles. Were it otherwise how could I honestly claim them as my principles?

If I believe that a person should be penalized for what they do rather than what they might do, don't be surprised if that's how I analyze a situation in my own back yard. A convicted child molester as a teacher is something I'd object to. A porn star becoming a teacher is not inherently dangerous. The person's previous career, while unorthodox, does not alone merit my suspicion. An actual, tangible history of behavior which directly places children at risk is required before I'll draw my sword on this one.

He was not a porn star (I hope). Is the body trauma he experienced less scarring than that of a porn star because it wasn't related to sex?

I don't quite see how his post is at all suggesting that other works don't damage the body. Mind explaining how it does?

In a way it might be very good for an ex-pornstar to be a teacher. If a pornstar decideds to quit the profession and teach instead either teaching is very awesome or being a pornstar isn't as awesome as it seems like it would be. As long as he's a good teacher and isn't trying to encourage kids to get into porn, I don't see what the problem is. Although I don't think everything that is legal is ok to do (and some things that are illegal seem perfectly moral to do) so his argument that what he did was ok since it was legal holds no weight to me, but like I said as long as he's a good teacher and isn't trying to make pornstars out of the kids, I don't see why it would matter in the first place. I would feel the same way about people that did illegal activities as well like convicted cocaine users; if they don't do it any more, they're good teachers, and they won't encourage drug use, then why not let them teach?

Having teachers that are dedicated and actually have some real world experiences seems like what we really need right now; not more cookie-cutter fresh college grads that have almost no real world experience and have had almost everything they've ever had just handed to them by their parents.
