If You Could Choose The Next President

Postby Mirkana » Sun Mar 11, 2012 1:19 pm

If you could choose one living person to be the next US President (or, if you're not American, the leader of your country), who would it be?

My choice would be Neil de Grasse Tyson. As a scientist, Tyson would make decisions about the economy based on the facts, rather than ideology. And he would work hard to repair the faltering American education system. His running mate would be George Takei, who is simply awesome. Ideally, Takei would handle all press conferences, and would deal with detractors by hitting on them.

Ifreann would likely make a good Taoiseach. A few NSers would fit, I think.

I'd start a thread here to choose 10 candidates and then run a poll.

Maurice Sendak.

But really, anyone who is neither Ron Paul, Rand Paul, or a libertarian will be acceptable.

From NSers, there are many, but I would nominate Nightkill and Robin Williams as his VP.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

*raises hand*

Colin Powell would be an awful choice, and there's no guarantee that your congress would have any idea of what the hell they are doing.

I know I wouldn't want my 11th grade history teacher anywhere near political office. Nor my 10th grade Algebra teacher who barely spoke English.

While I like both of those men - de Grasse Tyson is not known for his diplomacy, even in scientific circles. And while I personally agree on just about every scientific point he makes, if someone disagrees with him he doesn't pull punches. This would become the new "partisanship" - scientific, instead of political. If you think religion is a serious point of contention currently in government - imagine the situation with someone so properly scientific as de Grasse Tyson. Takei is a fun guy, but really he's nothing more than a meme-spammer. No really new ideas, just regurgitates what comes his way that meets his fancy.

As for me ... honestly, I wouldn't wish the jobs on anyone I like. So I guess I would say Ron Paul for President and Santorum for Vice. I mean ... come on, we haven't had both the Pres and VP impeached and removed from office before - might be an interesting experience in US politics to see it done.

Nah, Ron Paul will just declare Congress to be terrorists, and due to the AUMF bill that he supported, he could thus hire a private military to arrest all of Congress, and thus the Paulist Reich begins.

I'd go for Ralph Nader, or Jesse Ventura. I like 'em both quite a bit.
Ralphy is an environmentalist who hates the 2 party system, and Jesse Ventura is a conspiracy theorist who hates the two party system. Oh, and Non-interventionist foreign policy is pretty awesome as well

I'm serious. If it was me who chose the next guy, then I'd remind folks that I oppose democracy by endorsing Cthulhu. To show them what a president is in my eyes. Why vote for the lesser evil?
