Evolution for the win. The snake could have easily killed her if she was asleep.

Shame the snake was killed.

It would have died when the inevitable dissection was done.

If they had decided to dissect it.

Regardless still a shame.

why, would you have let it/forced it to breed to see what the result would be? that seems like the only good reason to let it live.

Maybe it's not too late. I saw this program once about extracting DNA from blood stored in mosquitoes, and crossbreeding with frogs or something...

We could certainly attempt to clone it. I'm not optimistic about our chances of success, though.

That's a bad idea. DIdn't the University of Florida try something like that? They wanted to create a bug that would eat mosquitoes. They came out with love bugs. :palm:

Oh great! Blood sucking frogs, just what we need. I wonder if their legs taste any different

The linked article wrote:A more common mutation among snakes is the growth of a second head, which occurs in a similar way to the formation of Siamese twins in humans.

Such animals are often caught and preserved as lucky tokens but have very little chance of surviving in the wild anyway, especially as the heads have a tendency to attack each other.

Holy crap that sounds awesome, now I want to see a video of a two headed snake fighting itself.

Also, I'm doubtful of Mrs Qiongxiu's claim that the snake was using this foot to cling to a wall. I always thought a mutation like this would usually be useless for anything other than getting caught on things at hilarious and/or inopportune moments. Where exactly would the snake have learnt to use the foot in this manner?

Of course in retrospect, If a two headed snake can fight itself, I suppose it's possible for a legged snake to utilise it's foot in some fashion.

Still, I wouldn't consider a mutation like this an actual "win" for evolution, seeing as according to Mrs Qiongxiu it was the scratching of the claws against the wall that alerted her to the snakes presence, which then led to said snake being beaten to death with a shoe.
It's just more of a "lose" to the bible than anything else, or at least to that bit in it regarding snakes, god, and how he's never going to let them have legs ever again.

Some dude a few thousand years ago wrote:And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of they life.

While we're on the subject, I'm pretty sure science has debunked that whole "eating dust" bit too, unless it was meant to be a sort of old school way for god to say "eat my dust you slow little legless bastard."

I bet someone did -- and they'll soon have a child with a see-through skull and 5 penises on his and her head. (Yes, his AND her -- it's a mutant.)
