I have to put up with my terrible voice everyday. You may or may not want to hear me.

Anyway, is it just me or do your voices also change in tone when speaking another language? I find that my Finnish voice is somewhat deeper and more monotone than my English or Swedish voices.

Had the same convo with Nana once. My French voice is a fair bit deeper than my English.

I guess it's because Finnish is supposed to be spoken in a horrible monotone.

I'll remind myself to punish you all with my voice tomorrow, as it's too late right now for me to be reading long paragraphs

"GO BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY!!!"
And with a large thud, The Incredibly Racist Hulk's body crashed lifelessly onto the ground, leaving a large indent on the road.
People gathered around the body, and cars came to a halt. The faces that once looked upon this monstrosity with disgust, now looked upon it with pity. It was not the creatures fault it was racist, if anyone where to blame, it would have been its creators, the ones who raised it into a life of racism.

That awesome moment when you remember this.

Which is the sort of thing that English education these days wants you to know. I will take the opportunity to criticise the instruction of ENglish in NZ. It should focus more on being able to use English rather than the "analyse the effect of blah blah blah." This is especially true because one is constantly hearing about complaints that the younger members of society cannot use English.

That reminds me, education in NZ is like a secret agency. If you aren't in it in some shape or form you have no idea what it does and what happens. Tertiary education is for retired spies.

NZ 'gayest place on earth'?

Is New Zealand 'in the running to become the gayest place on earth'? That's the suggestion of America's gay magazine Instinct, following the passage of Louisa Wall's marriage equality bill by surprisingly high margin of 80 to 40. The international coverage of what is happening is quite interesting - for example the Washington Post has run Nick Perry's report, New Zealand Parliament passes 1st stage of gay marriage law spurred by Obama declaration. This includes the quote from Wall: 'I think the catalyst was around Obama's announcement, and then obviously our prime minister came out very early in support, as did the leader of my party.... The timing was right'.

tasssie and sa seem to be racing to be the first state to allow equal marriage rights, i heard someone suggest tassie has one eye on the pink tourist dollars which obviously won't work if other states offer the same opurtunities.

on a completely different note did any one see the 'funeral haka' performed by kiwi soldiers in Afghanistan today? or yeterday?

can anyone tell me if the haka is traditionally a funeral thing ?

EDIT: just found the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVSJK1jMxPI

the description includes the phrase "hundreds of troops performing a traditional Maori funeral Haka" so i guess that answers my question. the modern uniforms look incongruous, but still very impressive.

I'm still waiting for it to go to the High Court, the constitution clearly states that marriage is the federal governments responsibility.
