The version of "Over the Rainbow" killed them for me, unfortunately. They completely missed the intrinsic link between the musical arrangement and the theme of the song (and the story), which left what they created hollow.

I LOVE Tom Waits. But if you ever want to hear that song absolutely massacred, listen to his version.

Dylan's voice is uniquely suited to Dylan's original creations.

A non-Dylan voice singing a Dylan composition just cannot have the same effect, and so such covers are inherently inferior.

Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower?

Already brought up, already demolished.

Dylan's recording of the song on "John Wesley Harding" was way better than anything Hendrix ever did, and perfectly suited to the mood of the piece (unlike Hendrix, who completely ignored it).

Pretty much all the covers of Bob Dylan songs...Man was a great songwriter but I dont think he was that great a singer...

This is incorrect.

Bob's voice is uniquely and perfectly suited to the lyrics he writes.

Speaking of Tom Waits, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss do a very good cover (ignore the video) of Trampled Rose.

Saying "nu-huh!" is hardly demolishing something.

I don't really like Tom Waits, so this colors my decision, but an excellent Tom Waits cover by Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

I also love Screamin' Jay.

I apologize for nothing! Especially if you clicked on my other links, the Bumble Bee Tuna jingle is a cool salve after those, so there. And I claim no responsibility for the anime. It's not my thing, but the internet is gaga for it just like it keeps heavy metal on life support.

I wish I could find a clip of Perfect Thyroid doing the Sanford and Son Theme, that's pretty awesome.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I wasn't entirely serious in my objections to your link :P

Here's a great cover of "Here Comes The Sun" by Phil Keaggy. Watch some of his other songs too. Amazing guitarist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPgbNl8H ... re=related
