Because politics never lead to stuff like National Socialism, which definitely never lead to a war that killed 2.5% of the entire human population. Definite improvement there.

Because religion never lead to stuff like the Crusades.

People can't be blamed completely for this. They are indoctrinated and pressured and threatened and controlled by things out of their control. This can not be helped if you keep letting harmful hateful dogmatic ideologies into people's mind. You blame other people for the world's problems. You're the exact same. And Dawkins has justified hate, in my opinion. He gets told several hundred times every day that he deserves to burn forever. Does that sound like very fun to you?

And I know the Soviet union was not the only communist government. Just like I believe Sky-daddy Babylon God of War Yahweh Sabaoth was not the only god.

You know, that's cute, because you know the armies that fought in the Crusades?

Not one of them every was over 70 000 people. And the Crusades were politics -- It was a reaction against the Seljuk Turks assaulting Byzantium and taking Anatolia from them.

Fine enough. Just know that the Dawkins quotes have been brought out so much that they're actually starting to show signs of wind erosion, so they've lost any chance of having an effect on someone.

Just because something is old doesn't mean that they have no effect on people, or that people can't agree with them.

You're honestly telling me someone repeating the same Bible quotes isn't just as tired as someone who devoutly cites Dawkins? Bring out the Book of Mark here and people will roll their eyes so fast they'll make themselves dizzy.

Things like this thread really make me hate NSG. Atheists can be pretty ignorant and bigoted at times and surprisingly it seems more than 20% of the people on this site think religion is a mental illness and for some reason the number is actually growing. Which reminds me of today's disappointing lecture where in my Core humanities world history class we were supposed to be discussing the Bible instead it was an atheist circle jerk with the professor basically going over a literal list of the things he didn't like about it and laughing about it and the rest of the class joining in as well with me having to correct a multitude of wrong points my classmates had made since apparently they didn't really do the reading. As for religion killing people the truth is it doesn't take Christianity for example the largest religion on the planet and look at the words of Jesus does Jesus at any point advocate murder, the answer is of course not, and many of these so-called holy wars were really fought for primarily secular reasons.

Atheists aren't all ignorant and bigoted. We just find Religious people annoying and act as a annoyed person would. Imagine if you were walking through a park, enjoying it, and someone came up to you and said "Yeah, all this was made by god, and if you don't believe that, you don't have any morals." And constantly say that over, and over, and over, and over again. You'd get pissed too.
And about Jesus and murder, Leviticus 20:13 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.' Enough said.

The Bible has been disproved? Funny, because I have a copy right here. This means that the Bible does in fact, exist.

Portions of the Bible's content have been disproven, yes, but other portions are largely in line with history. The Old Testament mentions legitimate Babylonian conquests, the existance of the Hittites, the splitting of the kingdom of Israel into Samaria and Judah... All of which actually happened, and the New Testament is more philosophy and theology once you get past the Gospels, and even then, nothing conclusively disproves the existence of Jesus, especially when we have people like Tacitus who lived not long after Christ mentioning him.

Claims made in the Bible have been disproven. The Bible itself? Hardly. It's frigging poetry. The notion of disproving it, or proving it for that matter, is utterly nonsensical.

You know, if you're going to use a horrible mistranslation of a passage and ascribe it to Jesus you could at least pick one from the New Testament.

Yahweh and Jesus and all that loving omnipotent crap has been disproved before Jesus was even said to exist. And I believe that Jesus existed, probably, but as a normal person, not the incarnation of Yahweh Sabaoth, who, again, was originally the Babylon god of War.

Jesus and Yahweh are the same person in the storybooks. Ergo, Jesus advocates murder, as Yahweh also does.

You can't really disprove an omnipotent force, and the Jewish interpretation of God was not necessarily loving, just one that played favourites.

As for the Babylonian thing -- Almost certainly not. If the Abrahamic God isn't real and in fact based on another God, he was almost certainly based on the Canaanite god known as El, or in some cases Ba'al (which just means "lord"), who was the father of the God Hadad and occupied a Zeus sort of position. And that's only if he was based on another God.

Oy, you don't seem to understand the Bible, Jesus never advocated killing anyone he even saved a woman from being stoned to death who was known to be an adulteress despite Old Testament law, which while it doesn't mean he approves of adultery or any of the other sins he told the men gathering to stone her "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." John 8:7 So since we are all sinners we have no right to kill another person for sinning.

look the problem is not religion or science its accepting the fact that people will always have a different view of everything in this entire universe. It sounds like total bull, but the problem in humanity is allot deeper and it stems from billions of different factors because there is a billion different people with an opinion on it. we all need to accept the fact that we have differences and we cant change people unless they want to be changed.

Jesus and Yahweh are the same person, according to the bible. And even if that's not the way you interpret it, Jesus DOES agree with everything Yahweh says. So, he thinks murder is correct.

I can only find one source for that versus the many others that claim otherwise. There was no Babylonian Sabaoth. There were Babylonian War Gods, mind you:

Belus, Inanna, Nergal, Shala, Sebitti, Ishtar... But no Yahweh Sabaoth.

Yahweh and Jesus and all that loving omnipotent crap has been disproved before Jesus was even said to exist. And I believe that Jesus existed, probably, but as a normal person, not the incarnation of Yahweh Sabaoth, who, again, was originally the Babylon god of War.

Yes, Jesus was disproven before Jesus existed.

Do you even read your posts?

By the way, "Yahweh Sabaoth" has never been used to refer to any god period, much less the god of the ancient Hebrews. (The origins of whom are inconclusive, but it certainly wasn't any deity from Babylonia. It was also probably a storm god, not a war god, although recently the suggestion that YHVH was originally a serpent god, or even a serpent goddess has come up.)

Yes. Jesus was disproved before he existed. By Epicurus (341–270 B.C.), Greek philosopher. Famous for this quote:
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
The quote pretty much logically disproves a God that is considered all Loving.

I can only find one source for that versus the many others that claim otherwise. There was no Babylonian Sabaoth. There were Babylonian War Gods, mind you:

Belus, Inanna, Nergal, Shala, Sebitti, Ishtar... But no Yahweh Sabaoth.

After checking my sources, they may be incorrect about the Babylon Yahweh. If so, sorry about that, I'll admit I'm wrong (if I am, which I still don't know)

That doesn't disprove a thing. It's like how "I think therefore I am" didn't disprove solipsism.
