In all seriousness you could try the Ted Kaczynski thing, minus the bombs and stupid manifestos 'n such.

Yup, pretty much sums it up, although i didn't even go to the whole Obama healthcare initiative. That's for other threads, i'm sure.

Quoting the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition, are we? :D This rule is more applicable in this context, I believe:

Can someone be a hermit with another person... say, lover/husband, for example? Because if I can, I would want the same thing too... and an yearly supply of contraceptives. Wouldn't want to ruin the "hermitage" with unplanned surprises, you know. ;)

I actually have the same question. I don't want to break up with my lady to be a hermit.

Hmm, but what happens if a hermit somehow meets another hermit, and they decide to do the tango, salsa, merengue, and bachata? If they decide to continue the bliss by meeting more often... would such socializing strip them of their "hermit" status?

:lol2:
Let me do the conversions here... About a month ago there was a spell where it was around 15°C in the day, which translates to about 59°F. Tomorrow it should be 17°C as the high, which is about 62°F. Sometimes it gets warm, and I hate that -- up to 25°C (77°F) or so, with the exception of two brutal weeks in August where it got to 33°C (92°F) with 80% humidity in one of the most bizarre and unprecedented weeks of weather history where two lifetime records were set and subsequently broken the next day. It was like being in Florida! How awful it was... I don't like anything over about 22°C (72°F), which can be a bit too warm in the sun. My friend wears shorts when it snows unless it gets to be below -5C° (23°F), though he'll wear a coat. He's from the North where he's used ot much more vicious snow than we have here, and -40 temps.

Do you need a license to be a hermit? Something like a hermit permit?

And are clochards their natural nemesis? Or vagabonds?

Shit, I'd love to get me a dog, shotgun and shack off in the woods and become that crazy old hermit everyone talks about. You know, the one that comes into town 2 - 3 times a year for supplies. That's been my ultimate dream for decades now. Sadly, I never seem to make it. :(

I've often wanted to do the same. Go somewhere and be a subsistence farmer/hunter. The chances are pretty low, and what always worries me is having to pay property taxes.

That's why you camouflage your house, duh! I mean you'll be living in a shack anyways.

Some countries don't make you pay property taxes if you live in rural places. India, for example, allows one to opt-out of paying property tax on non-attached dwellings if the user provides or forgoes their own road, security, fire containment systems, etc. Of course, those living in shacks aren't taxed because they aren't proper "legal" dwellings that anyone really "owns".

Canada or Alaska are too fucking cold. I want a deserted island in the South Pacific.
